Shedeur Sanders was initially projected to get drafted in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He was one of the best QB prospects in this year’s draft class, and he had achieved many accolades, and broken many records, to solidify himself to be selected in the first round. In fact, initially, Shedeur was looked at as a top 10 pick in the 2025 draft class. However, as things turned out, Sanders fell off of a mountain cliff as he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 5th round, as the 144th pick.
His fans, analysts, and even NFL players were shocked to hear that Sanders’ name wasn’t called up until the 5th round of the draft. He clearly has the talent to flourish in the NFL, so what caused the massive slide? We believe that it was because of Sanders’ play, which many scouts were concerned about prior to the draft. While he was excellent in college, many scouts were worried about if that would translate into the NFL. There are also some speculations about the way Sanders conducted himself on and off the field. He skipped the NFL Combine, potentially skipped some of the team interviews, and there are also some rumors about how he was extremely cocky, which was off putting for NFL GMs and coaches.

The NFL doesn’t just look at a player’s stats, and how well he performs on the field. Every little thing matters, and Sanders’ ways of operating, may not have sat right with the league. Recently, NFL analyst shared his opinion on why Sanders slipped to the 5th round. Let’s find out what he said.

With all the drama surrounding Shedeur Sanders, getting picked extremely late in the 5th round, NFL analyst, Colin Cowherd, brought in a fresh prespective about why Shedeur fell from the 1st round, all the way into the 5th. Here is what he said;
“Until mid march, I thought it was really strange, that all the draft coverage that I saw as everybody was shocked, dismayed, that Shedeur Sanders had fallen in the draft.” Cowherd continued, “Nobody said, even mentioned that maybe dad (Deion) didn’t help him out… Go back it wasn’t until mid march when Deion probably somebody got into his ear or maybe he came to his senses. Where Deion Sanders said ‘Okay, my son can be drafted by anybody.’ Until that point during key evaluation months, I went this morning and looked at clips, found four different shows of Deion Sanders with arrogance, hubris confidence, saying ‘Hey, it’s gonna be on our terms. There are teams he will not be playing for.'”
“Shedeur is a prospect. He’s going to be an employee of a business. And your dad is saying, ‘There are teams we will not play for’ and that’s directed at many of the teams that were interested… You know I’ve said on my show before, quarterback dad has become pageant mom, where the heart is in the right place, but sometimes they do a disservice to their kids.”

mma I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
