Newcastle vs Ipswich Premier League Fixture – Magpies Determined To Hold Onto Champions League Qualification Spot

Key Injuries, Predicted Lineups & Match Preview for the Crucial Premier League on April 26.

Ipswich Town returned to the Premier League only this term. Now they could see their brief return end this Saturday when they travel to St James’ Park for a daunting clash against high-flying Newcastle United. The Tractor Boys are staring down relegation and they must win.

Ipswich will still have to hope for other results to go their way to keep their slim hopes alive. Meanwhile, the Magpies will welcome back Eddie Howe to the touchline. They’ll aim to bounce back from a heavy defeat at Aston Villa and tighten their grip on a Champions League spot.

Magpies Determined to Hold Onto Champions League Qualification Spot

Newcastle saw a six-game winning streak come to a crashing halt as they lost 4-1 against Aston Villa last weekend. This game made their recent fatigue quite evident after a hectic April schedule. Despite the setback, they remain in control of their top-five destiny.

They’re sitting two points clear of both Chelsea and Aston Villa. Back at their fortress, St James’ Park, they’ve won four Premier League matches in a row. Now the Magpies are chasing a third straight home game with four or more goals. They haven’t achieved this feat since the 1994-95 season.

Newcastle United Injury News

Fabian Schar was the solo scorer in the Magpies’ defeat at Villa Park. But he was taken off late with a hamstring issue. However, his probable absence for this match would only be precautionary. Eddie Howe is hopeful that the Swiss defender will be fit. And it is vital with Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles sidelined with knee injuries.

Even so, if Schar misses out against Ipswich, Emil Krafth may need to fill in at centre-back. In the final third, Alexander Isak continues to impress. He will look to extend his superb record against the promoted teams in the Premier League. He has scored 15 goals in 14 appearances against such opposition.

Newcastle United probable starting lineup:

Pope; Livramento, Burn, Schar, Trippier; Joelinton, Tonali, Guimaraes; Barnes, Isak, Murphy

Ipswich Town Injury News

Ipswich have an extensive injury list, including Kalvin Phillips, Sammie Szmodics, Wes Burns, Jaden Philogene, Nathan Broadhead, Omari Hutchinson, Chiedozie Ogbene, and Arijanet Muric. Ipswich will have to line up without Leif Davis after he saw a red card against Arsenal. He will begin a three-match suspension in this match.

This further depletes Kieran McKenna’s options.  Conor Townsend is also struggling with a thigh issue. Hence, Cameron Burgess may shift to left-back. However, the coach has Ben Godfrey as another alternative. With these many key players out and a critical fixture ahead, Ipswich face an uphill battle for survival.

Ipswich Town probable starting lineup:

Palmer; Burgess, Greaves, O’Shea, Tuanzebe; Cajuste, Morsy; Clarke, Enciso, Johnson; Delap
