Newcastle United Reject £120m Liverpool Bid for Alexander Isak Amid Transfer Tensions

The Magpies Stand Firm on Their £150M Valuation As Liverpool Intensify Interest in the Swedish Star.

Newcastle United have rejected Liverpool’s initial £120 million offer, including add-ons, for Alexander Isak. The Reds are pushing to add another elite forward to their ranks and have already registered a massive bid. The bid amount would eclipse the British transfer record.

Even so, Newcastle remain adamant that Isak is not for sale unless they secure a suitable replacement. The 25-year-old Swedish international has not joined Newcastle on their pre-season tour in Asia. Instead, he has been training individually at his former club, Real Sociedad.

Some reports initially cited that Isak sustained a minor thigh injury. However, sources now suggest that Isak made the decision himself amid growing speculation about his future. According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Isak informed Newcastle last week of his desire to leave.

As per BBC Sport’s Sami Mokbel, Newcastle United value Isak at approximately £150 million and are unwilling to entertain offers below that figure. Eddie Howe confirmed that Isak remains under contract and the club retains control. Even so, Isak’s future isn’t entirely in their hands.

Earlier this week Howe said, “He is still our player. He’s contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him. My wish is that he stays, but that’s not in my full control.” The Magpies have reportedly explored targets such as RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko to replace Isak should he leave.

However, Manchester United are also heavily linked with the Slovenian striker. Hence, their pursuit for Sesko is far from straightforward. Earlier, they also failed in their attempts to sign Hugo Ekitike and James Trafford, which only added to the club’s summer frustrations.

Liverpool Prepared for Record-Breaking Move

Liverpool, meanwhile, are not backing down. They’ve already signed Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Hugo Ekitike this summer. The Merseyside club are now eyeing Isak as a potential final piece before the season begins.

Isak’s contract runs until 2028, with a release clause set to become active next summer. It looks like Liverpool, recognizing the Magpies’ leverage, are willing to wait. However, their pursuit might also hinge on whether other suitors, like Saudi Arabian ones enter the fray.
