Liam McNeeley

Liam Thomas McNeeley was born on October 10, 2005, in Richardson, Texas, USA. He played high school basketball at J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson, Texas, John Paul II in Plano, Texas, and Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida. He was a consensus five-star recruit and one of the top players in the class of 2024. McNeeley is 6’5″ and weighs 210 lbs. His position is small forward, and he shoots right-handed.

McNeeley played college basketball for the UConn Huskies during the 2024-2025 season. In his only season in Connecticut, he was the team’s leading scorer, averaging 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. He earned several honors during his college career, including Third Team All-Big East (2025), Big East Freshman of the Year (2025), and Big East All-Freshman Team (2025). He was also a McDonald’s All-American (2024) and participated in the Jordan Brand Classic (2024).

In the 2025 NBA draft, McNeeley was selected with the 29th overall pick in the first round by the Phoenix Suns. However, on June 30, 2025, his draft rights were traded to the Charlotte Hornets, along with Vasilije Micić and a 2029 first-round pick, in exchange for center Mark Williams and a 2029 second-round pick. He now plays professionally for the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA. Recent news indicates that McNeeley has been seen playing for the Charlotte Hornets in preseason games, with some questioning if he could be a “steal” of the 2025 NBA draft class.
