Here’s the NBA Daily Recap for Jan. 22, 2025, where we witnessed eight matchups. Pelicans-Bucks game was postponed after heavy snowstorm in New Orleans and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dropped his career-high 54 points to widen the MVP race gap. It was one of the exciting days in the NBA as two games had a winning margin of just one point and one game went into overtime.

From the Sacramento Kings’ comeback win over the Warriors to the Boston Celtics surviving in overtime against the Clippers, let’s go through the key highlights from the NBA action on Wednesday.

Nets 84-108 Suns

Devin Booker posted his 200th career 30-point performance to guide the Phoenix Suns to a win over the short-handed Brooklyn Nets. Kevin Durant added 24 points against his former team and Phoenix secured seventh win out of last 10.

Nick Richards grabbed 15 rebounds in his second start for the Suns, who were playing without Bradley Beal. Keon Johnson led Brooklyn with 20 points and Jalen Wilson had 15. Nets have dropped their ninth straight home game and fell to 14-31 in the East.

Hawks 104-114 Pistons

Detroit Pistons squeezed past Atlanta Hawks to win their second straight game in the five-game road trip. Cade Cunningham had 32 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in the win. Jalen Duren added 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Malik Beasley chipped in with 17 off the bench.

Ausar Thompson contributed 11 points and nine rebounds for the Pistons. Dyson Daniels added 20 points and 10 rebounds while Jalen Johnson had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Hawks, who start their three-game homestand with a loss.

Mavericks 114-115 Timberwolves

Jaden McDaniels hit a free throw with 3 seconds to play as the Timberwolves snatched a close win against short-handed Mavericks. McDaniels scored a career-high 27 points, and Anthony Edwards had 21. Mike Conley’s two free throws gave the Timberwolves a decisive 114-111 lead with 11.8 seconds left.

Kyrie Irving missed a 3-pointer and hit a running 3 at the buzzer before McDaniels’ clutch free throw. Irving scored 36 points and P.J. Washington Jr. had a season-high 30 points for Dallas, who lost fifth of the last six games. Mavericks are 4-11 without Luka Doncic and are tied for seventh place in the West.

Grizzlies 132-120 Hornets

An early first-half lead helped the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Charlotte Hornets for fourth straight win. Desmond Bane scored 24 points, and Luke Kennard had 23 on a season-high seven 3-pointers. Jaren Jackson Jr. finished with 22 points, and Ja Morant chipped in with 16 points and 13 assists.

Mark Williams paced the Hornets with a career-high 38 points. LaMelo Ball dropped 22 points, and eight rebounds while Miles Bridges had 17 for Charlotte, who halted a three-game winning streak.

Thunder 123-114 Jazz

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has strengthened his position at the top of the MVP ladder with a career-high 54 points. Oklahoma City Thunder eased to a 123-114 victory over Utah Jazz. Shai tallied eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks. Jalen Williams racked up 25 points to guide Thunder for a 13th straight home win.

John Collins led Utah with 22 points, and 12 rebounds. Walker Kessler (17 points, 15 boards) and Keyonte George (15 points, 10 assists) also had double-doubles. Utah Jazz dropped fourth straight game but controlled Oklahoma City’s offense in first three quarters.

Rockets 109-108 Cavaliers

Alperen Sengun hit two free throws with 4.5 seconds left to clinch a one-point win for the Rockets against the NBA-leading Cavaliers. Darius Garland missed two of three free throws before the buzzer. Donovan Mitchell had a chance to win it for Cleveland but his 3-point attempt was off.

Fred VanVleet dropped 26 points and Rockets cut the 13-point deficit. Darius Garland scored 26 points and Donovan Mitchell had 19 points. Jarrett Allen, who allowed Sengun to setup winning free throws, posted a double-double. Cavaliers dropped second road game in last three but maintained their lead at the top in the West.

Kings 123-117 Warriors

Sacramento Kings overcame an 18-point deficit to beat Golden State Warriors for a third straight win. DeMar DeRozan scored 32 points, including 19 in the third period. Domantas Sabonis added 26 points and 18 rebounds. Malik Monk chipped in with 20 points and nine assists.

DeAaron Fox contributed 14 points for Sacramento, who are 10-2 under Doug Christie. Andrew Wiggins led the Warriors with 25 points and Buddy Hield improved his game with 17 points. Steph Curry dropped a double-double with 14 points and 12 assists. An 8-0 run in the fourth assured a comeback win for the Kings.

Clippers 113-117 Celtics (OT)

Boston Celtics held the nerves to beat the LA Clippers in overtime 117-113. Jaylen Brown scored 25 points, and Jayson Tatum added 24 in the second win in four-game road trip. Both teams were dealing with injuries. Derrick White chipped in with 20 points and Sam Hauser added 15.

Derrick Jones Jr. led the Clippers with a career-high 29 points. Kevin Porter Jr. dropped a season-high 26 and Amir Coffey added 24. Derrick Jones scored with 4.2 seconds remaining to tie the game at 103 points. An early 9-2 run helped Boston to secure a win in overtime.
