During the greatest scoring quarter, Klay Thompson was shooting on a perfect 13-for-13 from the field.

On January 23, 2015, Klay Thompson produced a greatest scoring quarter in NBA history when he was playing for the Golden State Warriors. Thompson was part of the Splash Brothers. The five-time NBA All-Star is widely regarded as one of the greatest three-point shooters of all time. Let’s walk around the history to revisit Kyle Thompson’s epic 37-point outburst in third quarter.

Klay Thompson, who moved to Dallas Mavericks in 2024, was in great touch with Golden State and he delivered one of the finest single-quarter performance against Sacramento Kings. Thompson scored a career-high 52 points and his 37 points came in the third quarter.

Klay’s extraordinary performance pleased 19,596 fans at rowdy Oracle Arena. The fourth-year pro broke the record of George Gervin, who posted 33 points in 1978. Golden State superstar joined Carmelo Anthony for the most points in a quarter.

The 11th overall pick in 2011 draft made all 13 shots, including nine from 3-point range in a quarter which is also a record. Michael Redd and Joe Johnson shared the previous record for most 3s in a quarter with eight. It was a complete 12-minute cinema for the basketball fans.

During the greatest scoring quarter, Klay Thompson was shooting on a perfect 13-for-13 from the field and it also tied a league record. The 24-year-old guard hit both free throws in the record-breaking quarter.

How Klay Thompson owned third quarter?

Thompson was shooting 3-for-9 from the floor, and 2-for-5 on 3-pointers, in the first half. The NBA All-Star hopeful provided a two-point lead with a a 12-foot jumper in the starting of the third quarter. He earned a steal and finished with a pull-up 3-pointer. With this play, Thompson started dominating the quarter and the Kings had no answer.

Thompson scored 37 of the Warriors’ 41 points in the third period and Sacramento Kings were held to 22 points. The All-Star had 19 points in the quarter with 3:03 left in the game and the Golden State guard outscored the Kings 18-3 in the remaining time.

Thompson made a classic alley-oop dunk in the process. His teammate, Andre Iguodala was filming the final free throws from the bench. Even Steph Curry was impressed with this dominant performance and said, “I thought I would never see that. Unbelievable.”

“I was just trying to shoot until I miss,” Thompson spoke to Warriors radio broadcaster Tim Roye after the game. “Honestly, I took like four heat checks, but they just kept going in. It was kind of a blur. I wish I could go back and enjoy it some more, but moments like that go by really fast.”

Golden State Warriors eventually beat Sacramento Kings 126-101. The Dubs won the last three games against Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals to win their first NBA championship title in 40 years.
