Here’s the NBA Daily Recap for Jan. 13, 2025, where we witnessed six matchups. Both Los Angeles sides resumed their season amid LA wildfires. We saw some top-class performances from Anthony Edwards, Cade Cunningham, Jalen Green and Victor Wembanyama.
From Malik Beasley’s clutch basket in Pistons’ win to Michael Cooper getting his Lakers No. 21 jersey retired, let’s go through the key highlights from the NBA action on Monday.
Anthony Edwards scored 41 points, including 20 in the fourth quarter to help the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the NBA-worst Washington Wizards on the road. Edwards was fined $50,000 by the NBA for an obscene gesture before the game. Julius Randle finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Rudy Gobert added 11 points and 11 rebounds while Naz Reid had 12 off the bench.
Minnesota committed 13 turnovers in the first half and had a four-point lead at the break. Wizards went toe-to-toe with the Timberwolves in the third quarter but Edwards led a 16-2 game-deciding run midway through the fourth quarter to snatch a win. Kyle Kuzma scored 22 points and and Jordan Poole had 20 for Washington, who dropped seventh straight game.
Detroit Pistons extended their winning run to eight games as they overcame New York Knicks 124-119. Cade Cunningham scored 36 points, to help the Pistons win the second straight game against the Knicks after losing 16 games in a row. Jalen Brunson led the Kicks with 31 points and 11 assists. Mikal Bridges finished with 27 points while Karl-Anthony Towns added 26 points and 12 rebounds.
The Knicks had a 53-49 lead at the halftime but Cunningham dropped 18 points in the third as Detroit outscored New York 36-27. Mikal Bridges’ three-point jumper reduced the deficit to one point with 1:26 left in the game. Malik Beasley, who finished with 22 points, denied any comeback for the Knicks as he hit a pair of clutch 3-pointers in the final 40 seconds.
Golden State Warriors produced another poor show as they lost to one of the league’s worst, Toronto Raptors in a close encounter. Stephen Curry scored a team-high 26 points and Andrew Wiggins added 20 for the Warriors, who are an abysmal 7-17 since their 12-3 start to the season.
Warriors had a 9-point lead in the fourth quarter but Raptors sparked a 27-15 run in the end to snap their five-game losing streak. Boucher grabbed the rebound and fed Agbaji for a game-winning dunk with 39 seconds left. Buddy Hield got a chance to tie the game but missed 3-pointer in the final seconds fell short.
With four defeats in five games, the Warriors dropped to below .500 for the first time. Meanwhile, the Raptors won their second in 18 games. Scottie Barnes led Toronto with 23 points and Jakob Poeltl added 13 points and 13 rebounds. Chris Boucher scored 18 points and RJ Barrett contributed 15.

Jalen Green scored a career-high 42 points, including a layup that gave the Rockets the decisive lead and Houston held the nerves to beat the Memphis Grizzlies, who lost the game after a 12-point advantage in the fourth.
Brandon Clarke’s layup helped the Grizzlies to take a 115-114 with less than a minute left. Jalen Green hit a layup to put Houston up 116-115. Amen Thompson made two free throws with 8.1 seconds left to make it 118-115. Ja Morant missed two free throws and Fred VanVleet did the job for Houston with two free throws with 2.1 seconds.
Amen Thompson scored 19 points and 13 rebounds while Alperen Sengun chipped in with 17 points and 8 rebounds in the win. Ja Morant scored 29 and Demond Bane added 25 for Memphis, who are 10-10 on the road this season.
James Harden scored 26 points including 13 in the third quarter to help LA Clippers snap a two-game skid in a win over Miami Heat. Clippers geared up for the first home clash amid wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
Norman Powell finished with 29 points while Ivica Zubac added 21 points and a season-high 20 rebounds. Harden also added 11 assists. Tyler Herro scored 32 points and 11 rebounds for the Heat, who halted their three-game winning streak. Kel’el Ware had 19 points and a career-best 13 rebounds off the bench.
Kawhi Leonard, who opted out from the previous game due to wildfires, finished with six points on 3-of-9 shooting. Miami had a 48-43 lead at halftime and Harden led a comeback in the third. The Clippers outscored the Heat 36-20 heading into the final quarter.
The Lakers entered the home arena after almost a layoff of one week and dropped their third straight game. Victor Wembanyama scored 23 points and eight rebounds to lead a 126-102 win for the Spurs.
Harrison Barnes scored 10 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter. Devin Vassell and Stephon Castle each scored 23 points for San Antonio, who snapped their three-game losing streak. Anthony Davis finished with 30 points and 13 rebounds while LeBron James scored 18 points and eight assists for the Lakers.
After ending the third quarter on a 15-5 run, San Antonio carried the momentum in the fourth with a 25-9 run in the first nine minutes to take control of a game. The Lakers also retired Michael Cooper’s No. 21 jersey in a halftime ceremony.
