NBA Daily Recap, December 28 – Knicks survive in OT, Warriors’ comeback win and more

Here’s the NBA Daily Recap for Dec. 28, 2024, where we witnessed 9 matchups. Teams like Warriors and Knicks were in action for the second straight day. Players like Anthony Davis, Jonathan Kuminga, Nikola Jokic and Kyrie Irving delivered top-class performances.

From Anthony Davis leading Lakers in road win to Warriors surviving a scar against Suns, let’s go through the key highlights from the NBA action on Saturday night.

Hawks 120-110 Heat

Atlanta Hawks squeezed past Miami Heat to end their four-game homestand with 3-1. Jalen Johnson scored 28 points for the Hawks too win a third straight game. Trae Young scored his 22nd double-double of the season, with 11 point and 15 assist. De’Andre Hunter chipped in 26 points off the bench.

Tyler Herro led Miami with 28 points and 10 assists while Bam Adebayo poured in 17 points and 10 rebounds. Heat are 1-3 without their star player, Jimmy Butler. Miami lost fifth of their last six games and they fell to 15-14.

Bulls 116-111 Bucks

Josh Giddey scored his second triple-double this season with 23 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists to guide Bulls to a win over the Bucks. Chicago snapped a three-game losing streak. Nikola Vucevic added 23 points and 13 rebounds while Coby White chipped in 22. Antetokounmpo-less Bucks dropped their second straight game.

Damian Lillard finished with 29 points and 12 assists after returning to the lineup. Brook Lopez scored 22 points and Khris Middleton added 21 after hurting his ankle. The Bulls had a two-point lead over Bucks at half-time. Milwaukee improved in the third and had a one-point going into the final quarter. Giddey hit two free throws with 10 seconds left following Copy White’s jumper to make it 115-111.

Warriors 109-105 Suns

Jonathan Kuminga continued his best form and scored 34 points to help Warriors snap a three-game skid. Stephen Curry scored 22 points to start a six-game homestand with a win. Suns were playing without Joseph Nuric who served suspension and had a nine-point lead during the final quarter with 6:48 left.

Jonathan Kuminga led the Warriors’ comeback by scoring eight points in a 10-run. Durant scored two free throws to regain the lead but he missed two-point shot with 15 seconds left in the game and Dennis Schroder hit consecutive free-throws to seal the game. Durant finished with 31 points and Bradley Beal added 28.

Nuggets 134-121 Pistons

Denver Nuggets escaped from Piston’s fourth-quarter surge and halt a two-game losing streak. Nikola Jokic scored 37 points and added 9 rebounds. Jamal Murray chipped in 34 including 21 in a third quarter while Michael Porter Jr. added 26 points. Nuggets had a 18-4 run in the second quarter to take a 67-61 lead at halftime. Denver outscored Pistons 47-28 in the third to take a 25-point lead.

Detroit sparked a comeback in fourth with a 33-14 surge and cut the 25-point deficit to just seven. Niko Jokic responded with six straight points to thwart the comeback attempt. Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey finished with 17 points each for the Pistons, who are 11-10 on the road.

Lakers 132-122 Kings

Playing their first game since the firing of Mike Brown, Sacramento Kings were routed by Los Angeles Lakers. Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 36 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists in the absence of LeBron James. Austin Reaves poured in 26 points and a career-high 16 assists while Rui Hachimura dropped 21 points. Max Christie added 16 points and Dalton Knecht had 18 off the bench.

De’Aaron Fox finished with 29 points and 12 assists for the Kings who played under Doug Christie. DeMar DeRozan chipped in with 25 points. Malik Monk added 20 points while Domantas Sabonis had 14 points and 12 rebounds. Kings dropped their sixth straight and are 6-12 at home this season.
