“My Cousins Were Celebrating”- UFC fighter shares Heartbreaking Story After UFC 310 Loss

After UFC 310 loss to Vicente Luque, Themba Gorimbo shared an emotional story of betrayal and hardship!

The fight game can be brutal, but sometimes, the toughest battles happen outside the cage. For UFC welterweight Themba Gorimbo, his recent loss at UFC 310 revealed a painful truth about family dynamics and success.

The people who should have had his back were the same ones who were celebrating his fall. Now, close to a month after UFC 310, Gorimbo shared what he saw was the ultimate betrayal.

Themba Gorimbo Talks About His Family’s Betrayal

Gorimbo had been riding high on an impressive four-fight win streak when the opportunity came knocking. When Nick Diaz pulled out of his scheduled bout against Vicente Luque, Gorimbo stepped up to fill in on short notice. It was a big risk with an even bigger potential reward. A win could have launched him into the UFC rankings and changed his life forever.

But things didn’t go as planned. Luque needed less than sixty seconds to submit Gorimbo in a devastating loss that stung badly. Yet the real pain came after the fight when Gorimbo discovered something that cut deeper than any submission hold. Some of his own cousins were celebrating his defeat.

In a raw and emotional interview with The Pivot, Gorimbo opened up about receiving videos of his relatives back in Zimbabwe rejoicing at his downfall. These weren’t strangers or critics on social media. These were family members filming themselves in Danone, the same impoverished neighborhood where Gorimbo grew up.

“After I lost this last fight. Some of my cousins were celebrating my loss; they were all celebrating my loss. He sent me a video of them in a place where we were 15 years ago. Just this small circle in Danone.”

The story takes an even more ironic twist when you consider that Gorimbo’s efforts to improve his community’s situation are being met with jealousy and resentment. Here’s a guy trying to bring clean water to his hometown, and instead of support, he is getting hate after a tough loss.
