Murodjon Akhmadaliev Dominates Luis Castillo, Sets Sights On Pound For Pound Star Naoya Inoue

Murodjon Akhmadaliev decimates Luis Castillo, now looks for the biggest fight of his career against Naoya Inoue!

Murodjon Akhmadaliev had a career resurgence lately. Back in 2023, he lost both his IBF and WBA titles to Marlon Tapales in what many considered an upset. But the Uzbek fighter never stopped believing he would get another shot at greatness, and now he’s one fight away from proving he belongs back at the top.

Akhmadaliev has been steadily rebuilding his reputation since that devastating loss to Tapales. The 30-year-old southpaw started working his way back up the rankings with renewed focus and determination. Meanwhile, Naoya Inoue did what everyone expected him to do. He demolished Tapales later in 2023 and claimed those same belts that once belonged to Akhmadaliev. The boxing world has been buzzing about a potential showdown between these two elite fighters ever since, but first Akhmadaliev had to handle his business against Luis Castillo in Mexico.

Murodjon Akhmadaliev Makes Quick Work of Overmatched Opponent

Akhmadaliev completely dominated an overmatched opponent who looked undersized and outclassed from the opening bell. Castillo came into the fight with a respectable 31-6 record, but those numbers didn’t tell the whole story about the massive skill gap between these two fighters.

The Uzbek fighter started cautiously, which made sense considering what was at stake. Akhmadaliev boxed smart for the first few rounds, establishing his jab and working behind his southpaw stance while Castillo tried to find openings that simply weren’t there. By the fourth round, Akhmadaliev began to break down his opponent with body shots and precise combinations.

The knockdowns started coming in the fifth round when Akhmadaliev went back to the body and dropped Castillo with a left hand that doubled him over. The Mexican fighter showed heart by getting back up, but the punishment only got worse from there. Another knockdown followed in the sixth round, this time from a short left hook to the chin that showcased Akhmadaliev’s excellent timing and power. Blood started flowing from Castillo’s face as the rounds wore on, painting a pretty clear picture of how one-sided this fight had become.

The end came in the eighth round. A right hook wobbled Castillo badly, and that seemed to flip a switch in the Uzbek fighter’s mind. He unleashed a barrage of straight lefts and right hooks that had Castillo stumbling around the ring. The finishing blow was a left uppercut. This convinced Castillo’s corner they had seen enough, and they threw in the towel at the 2:05 mark.

The Showdown With Naoya Inoue Showdown In Reach Now

With Castillo out of the way, Murodjon Akhmadaliev can now focus entirely on what promises to be the biggest fight of his career. The potential September 14 date with Naoya Inoue in Tokyo represents everything the Uzbek fighter has been working toward since losing his belts two years ago. Inoue is widely considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. He has devastating knockout power in both hands and technical skills that have allowed him to dominate multiple weight classes.

Akhmadaliev actually has the size and power to potentially trouble Inoue. The Japanese superstar has looked almost invincible lately, but he’s never faced someone quite like Akhmadaliev at 122 pounds. If the Uzbek fighter can keep this form, this could be the toughest test of Inoue’s career.
