“Money Talks, Mate”: Alexander Volkanovski Jokes About Fighting This Terrifying UFC Champion For Money

Zaid Quraishi

Money talks! Alexander Volkanovski is ready to climb weight classes to take on dominant champion!

Size differences in MMA usually matter a lot, but some fighters have that special brand of crazy that makes them willing to fight anyone. Alexander Volkanovski, the former featherweight champ who usually fights at 145 pounds, recently entered this conversation!

He is discussing a potential fight with light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira! To put this in perspective – Pereira is essentially a giant who knocks people out for a living. The Brazilian champion fights at 205 pounds and has made a career of separating people from their consciousness with his legendary left hook.

Alexander Volkanovski’s Take On Fighting Alex Pereira

In a recent Q&A session on his YouTube channel, Alexander Volkanovski gave the kind of answer that makes fans love him even more. He is known for taking up short-notice fights, but now he doesn’t mind changing weight classes either if the money is right.

“Money Talks mate, money talks. You’d do it? Of course, you would cause you would get some good coin for that. Imagine having to step up and fight that monster… I could see myself being like all right let’s do it.”

The size difference between them is like comparing a sports car to a tank. However, Volkanovski’s approach to the hypothetical matchup was refreshingly honest and hilarious.

The former featherweight champ didn’t try to act tough or claim he would stand and trade with Alex Pereira. Instead, he laid out his game plan with brutal honesty: grab those legs like his life depended on it ( it very well might).

This conversation is particularly entertaining when fans factor in Alexander Volkanovski’s reputation for fearlessness. This is the same guy who stepped up to fight Islam Makhachev on short notice. But even he draws the line at trading punches with someone who looks like he was engineered in a lab to knock people out.

While this fight likely won’t happen anytime soon (or ever, for the sake of Volkanovski’s health), it’s refreshing to see a champion who can joke about these matchups while being realistic about the challenges. In a sport where everyone claims they can beat anybody, Alexander Volkanovski’s honesty and his willingness to take on any challenge for the right price shows why he’s one of the most beloved figures in MMA.
