Liverpool Star Says 'Crazy Year' Gives Him His Best-Ever Chance at Winning Football’s Top Individual Prize.
Mohamed Salah recently iterated during an interview with Sky Sports that this year is his best opportunity yet to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or. It is undeniable that the Egyptian has had a remarkable 2024-25 campaign. The Liverpool forward was instrumental in Arne Slot’s side reclaiming the Premier League title this season.
Salah has contributed a staggering 28 goals and 18 assists in the league alone for the Reds. Speaking to Sky Sports, Salah said, “I would say I never had a season like this and winning big trophies so I would say this is my best chance to get it right now while I’m in the club because it’s been a crazy year, a crazy season with a trophy. It’s given me a good chance.”

The 32-year-old, recently signed a new two-year deal with the Reds in April. He ended the season with 33 goals and 23 assists to his name across all competitions. He is currently leading the Golden Boot race and is among the frontrunners for the Ballon d’Or. The award ceremony is set to be announced in Paris on September 22 this year.
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot echoed Salah’s optimism in a recent press conference, as he said, “It’s completely true. He’s had very, very good seasons at Liverpool but this one probably stands out in terms of numbers and if you add to that that we also won the league it will probably give him a fair chance.”

Slot added that Salah’s consistency and drive make him a perennial contender: “If there was ever a chance for him it will be this season. If not, he’s going to try and push even harder next season. That’s what I always know with Mo.”
Despite his standout year, Salah faces fierce competition from Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and PSG’s Ousmane Dembele. All three players have been instrumental this season to guide their respective clubs to domestic glory.

Salah, however, remains focused on finishing the season strong as Liverpool prepare to host Crystal Palace in their final league game. While the Egyptian forward has been long regarded as one of the Premier League’s elite, he has never cracked the Ballon d’Or top three.
However, that could change this year, with numbers, silverware, and narrative all look to be aligning in his favor. However, with him competing against some amazing talents on par with him this season, it may not come easily to the Egyptian star.
