Lucia Bronzetti has entered round 2 at Wimbledon for the first time in her career
Mirra Andreeva is set to get the proceedings underway on the Number 1 Court today as she takes on Lucia Bronzetti in this second-round encounter at Wimbledon 2025.
The seventh seed is still standing tall as four of the top five seeds have all crashed out in round 1. This is the first time Bronzetti has reached the second round at the prestigious grass event.
Andreeva’s grass court preparations didn’t go too well prior to Wimbledon. Following her quarterfinal run at the French Open, the Russian lost in the opening round at the Berlin Open and the second round at the Bad Homburg Open.
Still, her confident first-round win here will be a big boost mentally. Her 6-3, 6-3 victory over Mayar Sherif was highlighted by winning 12 of 14 net points, although her serve could have been better. She put plenty of pressure on her opponent’s serve, evidenced by her 12 break point chances.

Meanwhile, Bronzetti has been struggling to find her form this year and holds a 12-17 record, including 4 consecutive first-round losses dating back to the Morocco Open.
The Italian overcame Jil Teichmann in straight sets in the first round at Wimbledon, but there was nothing pretty about the match. An average serving display was capped off by just 10 winners and 11 unforced errors.
The pair match today at Wimbledon 2025 will be their first-ever career meeting on tour. Bronzetti will have to deal with the power and aggressive play of her much younger opponent if she has any chance of winning.

“You’re being called one of the contenders for Grand Slam titles these days. Your coach Conchita Martinez won this title in 1994… what advice has she given you?”

Andreeva may not have had the best warm-up to Wimbledon this year, and she is still only 4-4 on this surface in her career. However, she showed what she is capable of in 2023, and since then, the Russian has improved leaps and bounds.
Bronzetti, who is still looking to make it past the second round at Wimbledon, has a 5-7 career record on grass. But what is more disturbing is the fact that she has been unable to hold her serve in the recent matches. Overcoming the likes of Andreeva is a challenge, and one that seems to be beyond the Italian’s capacity at the moment.
