“Might make me decide to think” – Ja Morant reacts to Mac McClung’s historic performance in NBA All-Star Slam Dunk contest

Mac McClung completed a three-peat in the NBA All-Star Slam-Dunk Contest by winning the 2025 event with four jaw-dropping dunks. His top-class performance inspired Ja Morant and Giannis Antetokounmpo to take part in future dunk contests.

Mac McClung knocked out San Antonio Spurs’ Stephon Castle in the final round with a perfect score of 200. The G League sensation dropped a perfect score of 50 on all four of his gravity-defying dunks.

Ja Morant has produced some insane dunks in the regular season, including the most recent poster on 7’3″ Victor Wembanyama on Jan. 15. The Memphis Grizzlies guard was following the 2025 All-Star Dunk Contest on Saturday night and he got impressed with Mac McClung’s scintillating performance.

“Mac (McClung) might make me decide to dunk,” wrote Ja Morant on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Ja Morant continued a thread with one more tweet and he challenged Zach LaVine and Aaron Gordon to join him. Memphis star wrote, “zach & AG wassup.”

Withing an hour, Ja Morant got a reply from Giannis Antetokounmpo, who expressed his desire to play in the Dunk Contest but with a condition. The Bucks superstar quote-tweeted Morant’s original post and said that he will only play if Ja Morant joins the contest.

How did Giannis Antetokounmpo fare in Dunk Contests?

The Greek Freak participated in the Dunk Contest in 2015 but failed his first three attempts, scoring only 30 points. He finished last in the contest with 65 points and never returned to the contest. Victor Oladipo, Mason Plumlee, and Zach LaVine were other participants.

The Bucks star stated during the 2020 All-Star that he doesn’t plan on returning to the NBA’s Slam-Dunk Contest. Ja Morant can change his mind if he agrees with Giannis for the next year’s Dunk Contest. Giannis Antetokounmpo will compete in the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday.

Meanwhile, LeBron James also teased participation on multiple occasions but he never played in the Dunk Contest. “I’m gonna do the dunk contest!,” LeBron James wrote once but it was just a fun tweet.

Players Michael Jordan and Vince Carter have made NBA’s All-Star Dunk Contest popular but from last few years, top stars from the season are not showing interest in the event. Despite the not-so-popular faces on 2025 Dunk Contest event, fans went crazy on McClung’s show.
