The past few months have been all about Max Verstappen. Even though the Dutchman is no longer the championship leader, he has been the talk of the town. The biggest news concerning Max Verstappen was his exit from Red Bull Racing. With the way things have played out in the team and the 2025 championship, it was believed that Verstappen is longer going to race for Red Bull Racing.
During the buildup to the Hungary Grand Prix, things have taken a u-turn in the entire paddock. The recent reports emerging in the Formula 1 paddock are breaking down every prevalent rumour. First, it was proposed contract extension for George Russell at Mercedes Formula 1. Russell and Verstappen were seen as prime contenders for the seat at Mercedes F1. However, after the recent updates, it seems that George Russell isnt going away from Mercedes anytime soon. Now, it’s Max Verstappen’s turn to bring an end to every story.
Toto Wolff did confirm that he was actually in talks with Max Verstappen for bringing him to Mercedes. There were several incidents over the past months which added fuel to the fire. By the time Formula 1 hit its halfway stage, the entire community was somehow preparing to see Max Verstappen driving a Silver Arrow next year.
However, the developments that have come forward in the recent weeks are a complete turnaround from the initial leaks and stories. Verstappen in particular was rather snarly about the rumors swirling around him. Ahead of the Hungary Grand Prix, Max Verstappen says-

“Some people just like to stir the pot, some people just like to create drama but for me it’s always been quite clear and also for next year. I’m discussing with the team already the plans, the things that we want to change next year so that means I’m also staying with the team for next year and if my boat is next to Toto’s then the boat is next to Toto’s.”
“You can have a personal relationship with someone even if you don’t have a working relationship with someone. I think it’s time to basically stop all the rumours, and for me it’s always been quite clear that I was staying anyway.”
In his interview, Verstappen also did not hold back from throwing shade at the media. He was especially critical of the conspiracy surrounding his and Toto Wolff’s personal vacations and private flights. Now that the rumors have finally subsided, the Formula 1 season has come to an impasse once again.
The Dutchman seems to believe in the ability of his team to bounce-back in the upcoming seasons. Red Bull Racing’s loss of members is not going to sway him away from his first and only Formula 1 team.
nhl I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in NHL, Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university’s Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
Message to Readers: I promise you one day you’ll see me managing operations on track with a Formula 1 team ; )
