Kyrie Irving is averaging at 24.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game this season

The Dallas Mavericks sought revenge for their past defeat and recorded a 127-120 win over the Boston Celtics in a thrilling clash on Thursday, Feb. 6. The last time both sides met, the second-seeded Eastern Conference side handed the Mavs a 122-107 defeat.

The Thursday night game saw Klay Thompson leading the side with 25 points, three rebounds and four assists, while Kyrie Irving put on a 19-point show with three rebounds and four assists. Spencer Dinwiddie added 22 points whereas Naji Marshall had 20 points.

On the other hand, the Celtics had Jaylen Brown coming up with 25 points with 5 rebounds and two assists.

This was the first win that Mavericks recorded in their post-Luka Doncic era. Notably, in what might be called as the biggest trade, the Mavericks parted ways with Doncic in exchange for Anthony Davis and Max Christie from the Los Angeles Lakers in a three-team deal which also included the Utah Jazz.

Needless to say, the deal sent shockwaves among fans and pundits alike, and the entire fraternity is still trying to process what just happened a few days ago. Irving, who earlier said that to come to terms with Doncic’s trade is a grieving process, spoke about the new members who joined his side as well as how it is like to play without Doncic

Following the game, Irving said, “It’s been a bit of an adjustment but it’s exciting. We got new guys, when we’re out there we’re just trying to get as many reps as we can.”

“It feels good to get the guys acclimated, look towards the future and it’s bright for us,” he added.

Notably, while Anthony Davis is still out with abdominal strain, Mavs’ another signing from the Lakers, Max Christie scored 15 points, six rebounds and four assists in his second game with the new team. Earlier, during the 118-116 loss against the 76ers, he scored 15 points, nine rebounds and three assists.

“He had everybody settling their nerves”- Kyrie Irving on Klay Thompson’s performance

The 32-year-old was all praise for teammate Klay Thompson, who finished with 25 points against the Celtics. Lauding Thompson for his performance, Irving said, “Klay is very comfortable in this building. You can tell.”

“He has a confidence about him when he walked in, he got us focused in shootaround, and had everybody settling their nerves,” the eight-time All-Star added.

Notably, Kyrie is averaging at 24.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game this season, whereas, Thompson maintains an average of 13.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game this season.

The Mavericks will now be up against the Houston Rockets on Saturday, Feb. 6.
