Marcus Rashford has officially been unveiled as a Barcelona player. He has joined the Spanish giants on a season-long loan from Manchester United. The 27-year-old forward was presented at the club’s official store just metres from the Camp Nou,

Additionally, Rashford’s new shirt number has already drawn plenty of attention. Rashford will wear the No. 14 jersey during his stint with Barcelona. It’s a number that’s steeped in history at the club. It was not previously a part of his identity at Manchester United or Aston Villa,

However, in Barcelona, the number holds special meaning for the English player. He confirmed during his unveiling that it belonged to his childhood idol. During the press conference, Rashford said, “I know the history behind this number. I feel a huge responsibility. I’m honoured to wear it.”

A Fresh Start for Marcus Rashford in Catalonia

The move marks a major step in Rashford’s career after a turbulent period at Manchester United. The current Red Devils coach Ruben Amorim deemed him surplus to requirements. After a mixed loan spell at Aston Villa, Rashford is now at a club that actively pursued him.

He admitted, “This is where I wanted to be. I would’ve waited even longer if it meant joining Barca.” The deal includes a non-mandatory €30 million buy option for Barcelona. Rashford also accepted a pay cut to see through the move. However, he still remains among the highest-paid players in Europe.

New Barcelona manager Hansi Flick played a pivotal role in sealing the transfer. With Nico Williams opting to stay at Athletic Club, Flick reportedly urged the sporting directors to sign Rashford instead. According to the forward, “Everyone wanted to make it happen – Laporta, Deco, and of course Flick.”

The No. 14 shirt, previously worn by names like Javier Mascherano, Philippe Coutinho, and João Felix, has had its ups and downs. However, for Rashford, the shirt represents more than legacy. For him, the number that was once famously worn by the club legends Johan Cruyff, it offers a clean slate.

He said, “Barca is a great club and the perfect place to rediscover my best form.” Now, with a new shirt and a new ambition, Rashford is determined to re-start his diminished career in recent times. Especially with the 2026 World Cup looming, he will need to prove himself more.
