Marcus Rashford’s dream move to Barcelona could hit an early snag. The Catalan club face familiar financial hurdles that threaten the English player’s registration for the upcoming La Liga season. The England international has agreed to join Barca on a season-long loan from Manchester United.

Barca have an option to buy, but Rashford may have to wait to play competitive football in Spain. Barcelona’s well-documented financial struggles have already impacted their transfer activity this summer. La Liga president Javier Tebas warned the club may not yet be able to register Rashford.

The club is reportedly over their salary limit. Reportedly, they’re spending more on wages and transfers than it has generated in revenue during the 2024-25 season. Thankfully for them, Rashford agreed to a significant wage cut from his £325,000-a-week Man United salary.

He agreed to around €10 million gross at Camp Nou. Rashford is hopeful that the club can resolve the situation before the La Liga opener against Real Mallorca on August 16. According to talkSPORT’s Andy Brassell:

“He’s taking a pay cut to make this happen, but there’s still no guarantee, certainly if you believe Javier Tebas, that Barcelona will be able to register him for the moment.”

This is not the first time Barcelona have faced such challenges. Last season, Dani Olmo missed the start of the campaign due to registration delays, while Jules Kounde experienced similar issues in 2022.

Marcus Rashford Career Revival Dependant on Barcelona’s Finances

The 27-year-old forward was told he had no future at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim. He spent the latter half of last season on loan at Aston Villa. There, he contributed four goals and six assists in 17 appearances. Even so, Villa passed on their £40 million buy option.

Rashford has now agreed to a move that he views as a chance to reignite his career. Paul Pogba, Rashford’s former teammate, expressed his delight at the move, telling IShowSpeed, “It’s great for Barcelona, to be honest. Manchester United are losing a great player. Unlucky for them.”

For now, Rashford will travel with Barca on their pre-season tour of Asia. He could also feature in front of the fans during friendlies, including the Joan Gamper Trophy against Como on August 10. However, until the club balance their books, his competitive debut remains uncertain.
