Manchester United Won’t Sell Unwanted Players on the Cheap: Ruben Amorim

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has issued a firm warning to rival clubs hoping to snap up the club’s out-of-favour players on the cheap. The Portugese insisted there will be no discounts on transfer fees for Manchester United’s fringe players. Notably, there is a group of players who have been training away from the United first team.

As part of their Premier League Summer Series, the Red Devils are currently in the United States, where they’ll face West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton in pre-season action. At the start of the club’s pre-season, Amorim exiled Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrrell Malacia from United’s main group.

While Rashford has since sealed a “dream” move to Barcelona, the remaining four have been training at Carrington after being left out of United’s Premier League Summer Series tour in the United States. Clubs like Real Betis remain interested in bringing Antony back after his impressive loan spell last season. Meanwhile, Juventus are monitoring Sancho’s situation and Garnacho has also been linked with several clubs across Europe.

United are bracing for a busy late-window, with suitors likely to wait until the final days of the window hoping for a price drop. However, Amorim was clear on United’s stance in that case. Amorim said,

“[Technical director] Jason [Wilcox], [chief executive] Omar Berrada and the club have a number for these players. If they don’t reach that, they will be Manchester United players, no doubt about that.”

“Some players have to find a new place so we have more space in the team and other players clearly show they want a new challenge and want new teams. We are just allowing these players to have time to think and to decide.”

“I understand the clubs are waiting for the last minute but they can have a surprise. I’m ready to receive the players.”

United’s Rebuild Continues

United have been active in the transfer market, spending close to £130 million on Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and left-back Diego Leon. Amorim still wants to add a striker and a defensive midfielder to his squad. However, the club is facing financial pressure and limited room for further additions unless old players leave.

Despite the uncertainty regarding his squad, Amorim says he is prepared to face Arsenal on opening weekend with the current group of players. With United’s opening five fixtures featuring Arsenal, Manchester City, and Chelsea, Amorim’s squad will be under the microscope immediately.

Any early slip-ups will be met with pressure, particularly for the club’s new attacking duo. Both Cunha and Mbeumo arrive with big expectations and will be tasked with lifting United from last season’s dismal 15th-place finish. As the transfer window nears its conclusion, all eyes will be on whether United can offload their fringe stars before the transfer deadline day.
