Manchester City Line Up Move for Wolverhampton Star Rayan Ait-Nouri

Abhinav Goel

City have identified Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri as a solution to their problems on the left side of defense.

Manchester City have stepped up their pursuit of Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri as Pep Guardiola looks to revamp his squad following a disappointing trophyless campaign. After falling short in all three major competitions this season, City are keen to bolster key areas of the pitch. One such area is the left side of defence, where the club has lacked a consistent option since Oleksandr Zinchenko’s departure.

Guardiola has been forced to improvise, deploying players like Matheus Nunes, Josko Gvardiol, and even academy product Nico O’Reilly in the role, but a long-term solution has remained elusive. As a result, City have identified Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri as a solution to their problems on the left side of their defense.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, City have made an official approach to understand the conditions of a potential deal for the Algerian international, with further talks expected in the coming weeks. Most recently, City suffered a 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final.

Ait-Nouri’s Impressive Premier League Campaign

Ait-Nouri enjoyed a standout 2024–25 season under Vitor Pereira at Wolves, contributing four goals and seven assists in 37 Premier League appearances. Notably, it was the most goal involvements by any defender in the league. His attacking instincts, technical skill, and versatility to play as a traditional full-back or further up the pitch make him a strong tactical fit for City’s system.

Currently valued at around €35 million, Aït-Nouri has recently switched agents. With just one year left on his contract, Wolves may be open to a sale but are expected to hold out for a premium, especially if other top clubs intensify their interest. Both Manchester United and Liverpool have also been linked with the Algeria international.

The potential departure of Kyle Walker and the need for renewed defensive depth makes Ait-Nouri a priority target for Guardiola. With City making the first move, the race for one of the Premier League’s most exciting full-backs could heat up rapidly as the summer window unfolds.
