Luis Robert Jr. to LA? Dodgers, White Sox Previously Discussed Luis Robert Jr. Trade

The Los Angeles Dodgers aren’t shy about making big moves, and they’ve had their sights set on one of the American League’s most dynamic (and unpredictable) outfielders. According to USA Today‘s Bob Nightengale, the Dodgers and White Sox recently discussed a potential trade for center fielder Luis Robert Jr., a deal that would have sent James Outman and a top prospect to Chicago.

For now, though, talks have cooled. But don’t be surprised if this idea resurfaces.

The Dodgers entered the 2025 season with a few roster spots still up for grabs, namely, center field and second base. Tommy Edman has been shuffled between both positions, largely filling in where needed. Andy Pages and James Outman were both given chances to claim center field during the spring, but neither fully ran away with the job. Outman, in fact, was optioned to Triple-A following the Tokyo Series, and Pages has struggled since.

Enter Luis Robert Jr., who, even amid a brutal start at the plate would be a high-upside solution. The 27-year-old is hitting just .163 through his first 14 games with the White Sox, with a .495 OPS, one home run, and one double. But he’s already swiped six bases, hinting at the tools that once made him a breakout star and 2023 Silver Slugger.

A change of scenery could be exactly what Robert needs. And the Dodgers, despite their near-$400 million roster, still have a few offensive issues they’d like to address. Max Muncy, Kiké Hernández, Michael Conforto, and Pages are all off to slow starts. The urgency to improve may push Los Angeles into action sooner rather than later, rather than waiting for the July trade deadline.

If the White Sox talks reignite and eventually fall in place, Luis Robert would immediately become the team’s everyday center fielder and add a right-handed bat to balance out a heavily left-leaning lineup. That’s especially important with Freddie Freeman and Muncy occupying everyday roles at the corners.

As for the prospect the Dodgers would be willing to part with? That’s still unclear. Dalton Rushing, one of the top names in the Dodgers’ system, is a possibility. So is Zyhir Hope, a fast-rising outfield talent. Either would be a steep price, but then again, Robert’s ceiling is sky-high when healthy and engaged.
