Luciano Spalletti Takes Charge at Juventus Amid Backlash from Napoli Fans

Juventus have confirmed Luciano Spalletti as their new head coach. The veteran has returned to club management after a turbulent stint with Italy. The 66-year-old has taken over from Igor Tudor, who was dismissed following an eight-match winless run. Spalletti will now hope to turn it around for them.

Luciano Spalletti Becomes New Juventus Coach

Luciano Spalletti has signed a short deal that time out at the end of the season. It has an automatic extension clause if he secures Champions League qualification for the club. He led Napoli to their historic 2022-23 Scudetto.

After that Spalletti briefly took charge of the Azzurri. However, he was dismissed this summer following Italy’s World Cup qualifying defeat to Norway. His reputation, however, remains intact. Spalletti’s Napoli side played high-pressing, possession-based football.

It also had a well-balanced 4-3-3 system that made Spalletti one of Serie A’s most respected tacticians. That’s precisely what Juventus are hoping for. They’re expecting stability, structure, and a spark to revive an underperforming squad.

After a shaky start to the campaign, they’re sitting seventh in the table and struggling for fluency in attack despite heavy summer investment. New signings Lois Openda and Jonathan David are yet to justify their fees.

Francisco Conceicao and Edon Zhegrova have also shown only flashes of potential. Spalletti’s tactical nous and emphasis on discipline could be the antidote to Juve’s inconsistency. His first task, however, will be to restore confidence in a morally down squad.

Napoli Fans Not Happy

Spalletti’s arrival hasn’t been without controversy. Some Napoli fans reportedly urged him to remove his tattoo of Napoli’s club crest. It was inked after their long-awaited title win. But Spalletti has brushed aside such noise, pledging to bring Juventus “back to where it belongs.”

His challenge is steep. The Bianconeri are six points off the top of Serie A and winless in the Champions League group stage. The new coach faces a demanding opening stretch, starting with Cremonese away before hosting Sporting Lisbon.
