Gunners Face Champions in Crucial Anfield Showdown with Top-Four Race Heating Up

Mikel Arteta and Arsenal will be hosted by the Premier League 2024/25 champions, Liverpool, on Sunday. After their disappointing exit from the UCL to PSG, the Gunners are sure to go another season Trophyless. Given the competitiveness between both sides, the contest of the English greats is still predicted to be a thriller despite losing its stake.

Liverpool under Arne Slot has thrived, which could come as a surprise for many. Following the departure of Jurgen Klopp, the Dutch manager has taken over at Anfield and the Premier League in some fashion. As the Reds come in after a loss to Chelsea, they will look to make life hard for the Gunners in this star-studded showdown at Anfield.

Liverpool Team News

Joe Gomez is Liverpool’s main absentee, who has been out for most of the campaign due to a hamstring injury. Young midfielder Tyler Morton is also missing with a shoulder problem, as Slot will have most of his prowess at his service.

Slot following the departure news of Trent Alexander-Arnold also confirmed that Connor Bradley will start against Arsenal as they look to prepare for the next season amid the changes.

Arsenal Team News

Riccardo Calafiori and Jorginho made their comeback to the matchday squad in Paris on Wednesday. Although it might be late for the stakes, it still helps Arsenal ease their worries about injuries. However, it’s important to note that Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Gabriel are still out for the long haul.

Reflecting on the season and what’s been lost, Arteta in his pre-match interview said:

“You cannot win the Premier League, that’s clear, but the last 16 days that we have with three games to go, make sure that we make ourselves proud at least to compete and end in the manner that we deserve. But this is what we are, when we get so close to winning big trophies, and you don’t achieve it, it has to be part of that journey.”

Arteta also confirmed that his squad will give Liverpool the guard of honour. Arsenal are currently headed towards the third season in a row where they finish third in the table. Being one of the most successful clubs in England points-wise, the Spaniard is still waiting for his first major trophy in five years.
