Lionel Scaloni Urges Fans To ‘Enjoy This Moment’ of Domination As Argentina Thrash Brazil

They had already qualified for the 2026 World Cup before this game, but this win asserted their ongoing dominance. Head coach Lionel Scaloni, speaking after the match, emphasized the importance of savoring this golden era while recognizing the challenges ahead.

Scaloni was full of praise for his squad’s collective effort. “It’s a team victory because we played as a team, and that’s why we minimized Brazil,” he said, “That’s the only way to beat these players.” Argentina’s pressing and tactical execution proved too much for their rivals, who struggled to contain the reigning world champions.

Despite Brazil’s technical ability, an early goal shifted the momentum in Argentina’s favor. “It’s hard to put pressure on such a technical team,” Scaloni admitted, “I think the quick goal helped them open up a little more, and we were able to occupy the spaces better.”

Argentina’s place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup was already confirmed before taking on the Selecao. However, Scaloni remained grounded, noting that challenges still lie ahead. The Barcelona winger had confidently claimed that Brazil would defeat Argentina “on and off the pitch, if necessary.” However, after the match, Scaloni dismissed any lingering tension. “I forgive Raphinha because I know he didn’t do it on purpose,” he said.

He added, “Argentina, with or without statements, would have played its game.” With this win, Argentina are now boasting a five-game unbeaten run against Brazil. This proves how true Scaloni’s words have been about Argentina’s recent domination, not just against Brazil, but also in South America, after becoming the first South American nation to qualify for the upcoming World Cup.

Looking ahead to the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Scaloni remained cautious. “The level of competition is incredibly even these days,” he said, “there’s still a long road ahead, and we know we’ll face serious opponents.” Argentina, looking to defend their ‘champions’ title, will have a tough battle in 2026 with an increased number of 48 teams (from 32 in previous editions).
