Belgian Grand Prix 2025- How Lewis Hamilton Managed to Turn a Problematic Weekend in His Favour!

Lewis Hamilton explains how his Belgian Grand Prix weekend played out with some changes to his SF25.

The Belgian Grand Prix weekend brought forth new parts in the Ferrari garage. Both Scuderia drivers were calling for new upgrades to the vehicle. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were gifted a suspension upgrade for the Belgian Grand Prix. The Circuit Spa Francorchamps being a long high-speed monster was everything Ferrari did not like. Their 2025 car is rather bleak and under-confident during the high-speed corners.

The team Scuderia Ferrari was witnessing two different stories during the weekend in the Belgian Grand Prix. The weekend was to witness racing action on all three days according to the Sprint Racing format. While Charles Leclerc was showing promising pace, his teammate Lewis Hamilton was racing behind the pack. Leclerc was able to bring forth the best out of the car in both race sessions. However, Lewis Hamilton had to mitigate the obstacles posed by bad qualifying sessions in the Sprint and the Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton Earns Driver of the Day at Belgium for Miraculous Recovery from Pit Lane

To everyone’s surprise in Spa Francorchamps, Lewis Hamilton could not make it out of the first stage of qualifying in both sessions. The Briton is a five-time champion at the Spa Francorchamps. He was also competing for a victory at the circuit in the previous season with Mercedes.

Although, this time around, the red outfit could not help Hamilton’s cause by a huge margin. The champion was relegated to the back of the grid during both qualifying sessions. Lewis was immediately apologetic towards the team for his lack of performance. He was to start the race from the pit lane after Ferrari decided to bring in a new power unit for his car.

After his rise from pit-lane to P7, Hamilton had a lot of talk about his performance with the new upgrades-

“There’s basically two elements to and one of those elements we had it to test back in Montreal, but I didn’t end up testing it and Charles did and ended up using it for part of it for a couple of races. So he definitely did a great job today. He’s feeling more comfortable and acclimatised. For me, it was the first time using it and that spin we had caught me out.”

“We’ve also got a change of engineer and we’re both in the deep end basically. I think we did a really good job overnight to rectify some of the issues, and to tweak and fine tune it, and the car was so much better today to drive. So I had a lot of fun trying to make my way through.”

There were a lot of factors contributing to his race this weekend. This includes a new brake specification and a higher downforce rear wing. Ferrari made the correct choice to bring forth a higher-downforce wing due to the rain forecast. Ultimately, it did not help Hamilton a lot because the race was held in dry conditions after a delay in race start.

Brembo and Scuderia Ferrari are also working together to bring in a new brake for Lewis Hamilton which gives him a rather responsive brake pedal that he desires in the car. There were also some changes in the team which include a new data engineer who would help Hamilton overnight to rectify his mistakes.
