Leeds United Sign Germany Midfielder Anton Stach From Hoffenheim

Leeds fans will hope Anton Stach’s arrival adds both defensive security and physical dominance to their team.

Leeds United have confirmed the signing of Germany international Anton Stach from Hoffenheim in a deal worth £17 million. The 26-year-old midfielder has signed a four-year contract at Elland Road. Stach becomes Leeds’ sixth signing of the summer as they prepare for their return to the Premier League following promotion from the Championship last season.

Stach leaves Hoffenheim after two seasons, where he made 71 appearances in all competitions. He contributed four goals and six assists and played a crucial role last season as Hoffenheim avoided relegation, finishing 15th in the Bundesliga. Before his time at Hoffenheim, Stach played for Mainz till 2023. His performances over the past two seasons made him one of the Bundesliga’s most reliable defensive midfielders.

What Will Stach Bring to Leeds?

Stach’s defensive numbers underline his pedigree. Over the past two seasons, he recorded 120 interceptions, which is more than any other player in the Bundesliga. He also won possession 393 times, the third-highest times in Germany’s top flight. Additionally, he ranks fourth for tackles attempted and duels won during that period, making him a valuable addition for Leeds in the Premier League’s high-intensity midfield battles.

While primarily a holding midfielder at Hoffenheim, Stach showed his versatility last season by playing at centre-back before shifting into a more advanced midfield role under new coach Christian Ilzer. At 6ft 4in, Stach will offer a strong aerial presence in both penalty areas.

Manager Daniel Farke is adding physical players to his squad that won promotion from the Championship last season. He has already brought in Jaka Bijol (6ft 3in), Sebastiaan Bornauw (6ft 3in), and Lukas Nmecha (6ft 1in) this summer.
