Leaving Manchester United To Join Real Betis Was the Best Decision I Ever Made: Antony

Abhinav Goel

Antony recently scored the decisive goal in Real Betis' Europa Conference League semi-final first-leg win over Fiorentina last week.

Brazilian winger Antony has described his loan switch from Manchester United to Real Betis as the “best decision” he has ever made. The 25-year-old has enjoyed a dramatic upturn in form since arriving in Spain, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in just 20 appearances across all competitions for Betis this season.

Antony’s sparkling form for Real Betis stands in stark contrast to his challenging spell at Old Trafford, where he managed only 17 goal contributions in over two years, including just one goal in the current campaign before his move. Antony’s resurgence in La Liga has turned heads.

I Found Myself at Real Betis: Antony

Antony recently scored the decisive goal in Real Betis’ Europa Conference League semi-final first-leg win over Fiorentina last week, in addition to finding the net in La Liga clashes against Girona and Espanyol. The skilful winger has quickly established himself as a key figure in Betis’ late-season push for Champions League qualification.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Antony said,

“I go to bed here and wake up smiling.”

I always say that the best decision I’ve ever made was coming to Betis. I’m happy, and when I’m happy, things go well.

“For me, of course, it’s important to score goals and provide assists, but being happy is even more important.

“I found myself here, I’m very happy here, and things are going very well.”

Meanwhile, Real Betis are said to be seeking a deal that would extend the winger’s stay for another year without triggering a permanent transfer. While there is no buy option included in the current arrangement, Betis are reportedly willing to continue covering a significant portion of Antony’s salary, which is currently 84% plus bonuses.

Unless fresh terms are agreed upon, Antony is due to report back to Manchester United for pre-season duties this summer. United manager Ruben Amorim has already stated that decisions regarding all the loanees will be made during the pre-season of the new campaign. However, with his strong form in Spain and a more settled rhythm at Betis, the Andalusian club remains hopeful that they can negotiate another successful loan spell.
