Inter Milan reached the UEFA Champions League final after a thrilling semi-final clash against Barcelona. While both teams performed extraordinarily in the match, goalkeeper Yann Sommer’s contribution was undeniable. He became the undisputed hero of the night. Barcelona came awfully close to equalising again when teenage prodigy Yamal cut inside and unleashed a curling shot destined for the far corner. Sommer leapt and managed to push the effort wide, preserving Inter’s narrow lead. After the match, Sommer said:

“That save gave us energy. We believed after this. We said now we have to do it, have to bring it home.” The Swiss veteran, 36, was later named UEFA Man of the Match. Despite conceding three goals, his crucial interventions kept Inter alive in the semi-final night for the ages.

Team Resilience Shines Through

Inter had to claw back into the game multiple times. They took the lead in the first half but within the 60th minute, Barcelona equalised and then took the lead with about five minutes to spare. Francesco Acerbi equalised even in that tight timespan. That goal sent the tie into extra time.

Nerazzurri coach then brought in Davide Frattesi as a substitute. He scored what turned out to be the winning goal in the 99th minute. However, after that goal, Barcelona kept coming and it was Sommer’s composure under pressure that held the team together.

Inter Milan now await the winner of the PSG vs Arsenal tie, with the final set for May 31 in Munich. With Sommer in inspired form and a team that refuses to quit, Inter are poised for European glory. As Sommer himself put it, “I’m very happy, we played an incredible match.” His name is now etched in Champions League folklore—one save at a time.
