Khalil Rountree Jr. Gives His 2 Cents On Jamahal Hill’s Withdrawal From UFC Kansas

Khalil Rountree Jr. gives his reaction to his fight cancellation at UFC Kansas against Jamahal Hill!

Injuries, last-minute cancellations, and rescheduled fights are part of the game. UFC Fighters train for months, preparing their bodies and minds for battle in the octagon. They sacrifice time with family, push through pain, and follow strict diets. All this dedication can come crashing down with a single phone call. That is exactly what happened to Khalil Rountree Jr. when he learned his upcoming main event fight against former champion Jamahal Hill was off the table.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting Rountree’s return to action since his title shot against Alex Pereira last October. Despite coming up short in that championship bout, Rountree’s performance earned him a Fight of the Night bonus and kept his stock high. The matchup with Hill was seen as a potential path back to title contention for both men. But it didn’t pan out.

Khalil Rountree Jr.’s Reaction to the News

Khalil Rountree Jr. took to his YouTube channel to address the situation directly with fans. He explained that UFC officials called to inform him that Hill had suffered an undisclosed injury and wouldn’t be able to compete on April 26 in Kansas City.

“So, I just got off the phone with the UFC, and it appears that Jamahal Hill is injured, not able to fight in Kansas City on the 26th of April. So, looks like I’m out of a fight, and it’s going to be postponed. I don’t know when, but it looks like that’s the case so far…I have no idea what the issue is.”

Despite the setback, Rountree showed sympathy not just for his opponent but also for fans who had made travel arrangements. This shows the class of a fighter who understands the bigger picture of the sport. Many fighters might have blown up on social media or demanded a replacement opponent. Instead, Rountree expressed hope that the matchup would be rescheduled.

His five-fight winning streak before the Pereira loss has positioned him as a serious contender, and he clearly sees Hill as the right opponent to help him get back into title conversations. With current champion Magomed Ankalaev looking for challengers (if he beats Pereira in the rematch), the stakes couldn’t be higher for both men when they eventually meet.

The cancellation has ripple effects beyond just Rountree’s career. The main event of the Kansas City has been reshuffled. Ian Machado Garry will now take on Carlos Prates in a 5 round welterweight bout. As for Rountree’s next fight date, fans must once again practice the art of patience in a sport that frequently tests it.
