Kevin Durant Passes Kevin Garnett on NBA’s All-Time FGM List in Win Over Cavaliers

Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant scripted a unique NBA record as the side took down the Cleveland Cavaliers 123-112 in a thrilling clash at the Footprint Center in Phoenix. This was the third straight win for the Suns, while the Cavaliers suffered their fourth consecutive defeat.

Durant, a 15-time NBA All-Star, finished the game with 42 points, six rebounds and eight assists. He shot 17-of-29 from the field while 4-of-9 from the three-pointer range. As he finished with 10,506 FGMs, he surpassed Kevin Garnett to acquire the 13th spot on the All-Time FGM list. He is just seven FGMs shy from taking over John Havlicek, in the 12th spot with 10,513 FGMs. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar holds the record with 15,837 Field Goals.

This was Kevin’s 72nd 40+ point performance of his career. Not only this, but he also joined the likes of LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the fourth player to score multiple 40-point games in their 17th season or later. In addition, he now holds a rare feat of scoring 40+ points against every NBA team.

The two-time NBA champion opened up on defeating the Eastern Conference toppers, Cleveland Cavaliers. With the regular season winding up, the win came at a crucial point for the Suns, marking their 34th victory in 71 regular season games.

Durant, who is leading the Suns’ charts with 26.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game this season, spoke about the game. He highlighted the importance of clinching a victory at a crucial point and that too against one of the best teams in the season.

Durant, 36, said, “Especially around this time of year, it’s important to get big wins and to have some good momentum. I’ve liked the style of play that we’ve had the last few games on both ends of the floor.”

The Suns coach Mike Budenholzer also spoke about Durant’s performance and hailed him as “phenomenal”. “Those are some great defenders that he’s going against, and there’s some nights where just he can get to his spots and get to his shots and score at a high rate. He was special tonight, said Budenholzer.

Apart from Kevin, Devin Booker chipped in 17 points, two rebounds and 10 assists while Tyus Jones had 16 points, three rebounds and three assists. Royce O’Neale had 15 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Seeded 10th in the Western Conference, the Suns will now be up against the Bucks on Monday, March 24.
