Kevin Durant Injury Update: How Long Is the Suns’ Superstar Expected To Be Sidelined?

The Phoenix Suns received a setback during the loss against the Houston Rockets as their star forward Kevin Durant suffered an ankle sprain. The veteran is expected to miss at least one week through team’s three-game road trip, beginning on Tuesday, April 1 against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Earlier, following the 148-109 blowout loss against the Rockets, the Suns’ head coach Mike Budenholzer addressed Durant’s injury. He said that Durant will undergo an MRI on Monday and will not travel with the team to begin the three-game road trip.

What Happened to Kevin Durant? What’s Next for the Phoenix Suns?

With less than seven minutes remaining in the third quarter, Durant, who had possession of the ball, rallied towards the basket. However, he rolled his ankle on the Rockets’ forward Jabari Smith Jr’s foot. Visibly in pain, Durant fell to the court and lost the possession of the ball. While a foul was called on Smith, the Suns’ star eventually got up but couldn’t put weight on his left leg.

The 36-year-old limped off the court and was eventually taken to the locker room. Before leaving, Durant played for 23 minutes and contributed 11 points, eight rebounds and one assist. His injury had had an impact on the Suns and they went on to suffer their third straight loss.

With less than two weeks and six games left in the regular season, the Suns are seated 11th in the West with a 35-40 tally. Durant’s injury has only added to the side’s nightmares. The 15-time All-Star has played a significant role for the Suns, with a season average of 26.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists, as well as a commanding position in defense.

Needless to say, his absence will only add to the Suns’ challenges as the regular season proceeds towards the end. With the play-in contention on stake, Durant’s absence is likely to hamper the Suns’ abilities in the upcoming matches. In their remaining matches, they will lock horns with dominating teams like Celtics, Thunder, Warriors and more.
