Jonathan Kuminga got injured in his ninth fixture since his return from a 31-game layoff.
The Golden State Warriors’ recorded their second straight win as they took down the San Antonio Spurs 148-106. However, their victory was marred by a blow they received in the form of star forward Jonathan Kuminga’s injury.
Kuminga left the game in the second quarter and did not return. Following the blowout win over the Spurs, Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr shared an update about the 22-year-old. Kerr labeled Kuminga’s injury as “a bummer”, and said, “You know, just coming back. Finding his rhythm. Playing well. So, hopefully it’s nothing too serious.”

As per reports, he will undergo evaluation on Monday, and an update about him is expected following it. However, Kuminga shared a positive update about his injury and told the San Francisco Chronicle that he is “straight” after the win and is hopeful of not missing time with the injury.
Kuminga said he’s “straight.” Asked him if he thinks he’ll miss time. “I hope not,” he said.

With 6:59 remaining in the second quarter of the clash against the Spurs, Jonathan Kuminga rallied to the rim. However, while attempting a score, he clashed against two Spurs defenders and made a hard fall on the court. He was ultimately taken away to the Warriors’ locker room before the side labeled the injury as a right ankle soreness. The Warriors announced that Kuminga would be sidelined for the rest of the game.

This was the ninth game that Kuminga played since his return from the 31-game injury layoff. However, despite his injury struggles, the youngster didn’t fail to make an impact. Since his return on March 13, he is averaging 14.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists. Before leaving Sunday night’s game, he scored four points and grabbed one rebound.
The Warriors, who have recorded seven wins in the last ten games, sit in the sixth place of the Western Conference standings. With only eight games remaining in the regular season, Kuminga’s injury puts the Warriors in a concerning spot. He is averaging 16 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists this season, and the team would not want to lose someone who adds depth to their scoring lineup.
The Warriors will lock horns with the Memphis Grizzlies in the fifth of their six-game road trip on Tuesday, April 1. Before the fixture, they await Kuminga’s medical evaluation reports which will impact the strategies and approach of the eight-time champions.
