The three-time WNBA All-Star dropped 21 points and two assists on Tuesday night.
Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell set a new franchise record during their 95-75 win over the Seattle Storm on Tuesday, August 26. She surpassed Caitlin Clark to become the Indiana Fever’s single-season scoring leader with 770 points. The three-time WNBA All-Star dropped 21 points and two assists on Tuesday night as the Fever surpassed Storm and Valkyries to grab the sixth spot in the standings. Her season-long scoring is now at 787.
Point guard Caitlin Clark previously held the franchise record for points in a single season. In her debut season of the league, she dropped 769 points, and she created the record in 40 games. On the other hand, Mitchell used only 38 games to break the record and achieve the feat. Notably, Mitchell has emerged as a ray of hope for the Fever who are undergoing a turbulent season.

The 29-year-old is averaging 20.7 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. She has been shooting 45.6% from the field, 77.9% from the free-throw line, and 40.1% from the three-point zone across 38 appearances this season.
The Indiana Fever broke their two-game losing skid to the Minnesota Lynx as they rolled past the Seattle Storm and registered a 20-point victory. Owing to the victory, Fever rolled past Seattle and Golden State to book themselves the sixth spot in the standings with a 20-18 win-loss record. A total of three players including Mitchell, Aliyah Boston and Odyssey Sims scored 20+ points. Needless to say, the victory came at a crucial time for the Fever as they would have been outside the playoff picture with their loss and Los Angeles Sparks’ win.

There are only seven games left for the Fever and head coach Stephanie White realizes the importance of securing a win on Tuesday. Speaking after the game, she said, ”Every game at this point in the season is huge, and this was a big one for us. We knew that we had to come out and have a sense of urgency. I felt like this was as close to 40 minutes as we put together consistently in a long time. I’m proud of this group for continuing to rise to the occasion.”
Notably, the Fever started the season on a promising note. However, things got derailed when multiple players suffered season-ending injuries. Not only this, but their star player Caitlin Clark has only appeared in 13 of their 38 games this season, putting their playoff chances in jeopardy. Up next, the Fever will begin a three-game road trip against the Sparks, who are ninth in the standings with only 1.5 games behind them.
