Muchova Faces Early Test from Italy’s Own Bronzetti
The 12th seed, Karolina Muchova, enters the Italian Open with a bye in the opening round and a point to prove in the second. Awaiting her is Italy’s own Lucia Bronzetti, who secured a confident straight-sets win over Anastasija Sevastova in the first round. The stage is now set for a clash between two players still searching for sustained rhythm this season.
Muchova, currently ranked world No. 13, has had flashes of brilliance in an otherwise uneven year. With a 12-7 record, she made back-to-back semifinal runs in Linz and Dubai, picking up solid wins over Anastasia Potapova and Sorana Cirstea. However, her inability to convert those deep runs into titles, losing to Ekaterina Alexandrova and Clara Tauson, alongside early exits elsewhere, has stalled her momentum.
Bronzetti’s season has followed a similar arc. Her standout performance came at the Winners Open, where she made a spirited run to the final before falling to Potapova in three sets. Outside of that, though, the Italian has struggled to make it past the early rounds.

An incredible tennis player, but also an incredibly classy person. ❤️

With both players eager to stabilize their seasons, this second-round battle in Rome could be the springboard they need or yet another missed opportunity.
Karolina Muchova and Lucia Bronzetti do not have a head-to-head yet. The Italian Open second round will be their first meeting and the beginning of their H2H record.

In spite of Muchova’s impressive clay-court credentials, including a French Open final run in 2023, her form this season has lacked consistency. Bronzetti, buoyed by home support and already having a match under her belt, could take advantage if Muchova starts slow and doesn’t find her rhythm soon.
Prediction: Karolina Muchova in straight sets
