Joshua Zirkzee’s time at Manchester United may be nearing its end. Multiple reports are suggesting that the Dutch striker is seeking a move away in January. The 24-year-old has endured a frustrating spell at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim.
The coach has used him sparingly since the start of the campaign. With just three Premier League appearances which have all been off the bench, Zirkzee is believed to be exploring an exit. He is searching for consistent playing time and a chance to revive his international ambitions.

Zirkzee’s struggles in Manchester have been evident since his move from Bologna in 2024. Despite high expectations, he managed only three league goals in 32 appearances during a disappointing debut season. Man United also finished 15th that term. It was one of their worst-ever Premier League campaigns.
This season has offered little improvement, with Amorim preferring Benjamin Sesko as the focal point in attack. The Dutchman’s exclusion from Ronald Koeman’s latest Netherlands squad has further intensified his desire to secure a move away. He’s hoping to restore his visibility ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Interest in Zirkzee’s services has reportedly reignited in Italy, where he first impressed with Bologna. Roma and Como are said to be leading the chase. Reportedly, both clubs have been keen on capitalizing on the striker’s unsettled situation. Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini is a long-time admirer of Zirkzee.
He is pushing for a loan deal. Meanwhile, Cesc Fabregas’ Como, backed by solid financial resources, could propose a permanent move. Although the Lombardy club cannot offer European football, their ambition and stability might prove attractive to the forward, who is eager for a fresh start.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are already preparing for life beyond Joshua Zirkzee. Reports indicate that the club is closely monitoring Italian striker Mateo Retegui as a potential summer 2026 target. Retegui enjoyed a prolific spell at Atalanta before moving to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Qadsiah.
He could be the player the Red Devils turn to in order to reinforce their attack. With Rasmus Højlund expected to join Napoli permanently and Matheus Cunha covering central duties, Amorim’s squad will likely require another proven finisher if Zirkzee departs.
