MMA Veteran Jorge Masvidal is itching to step back in the UFC octagon, and he’s got his sights set on a long-standing rival. Known for his explosive striking ability and a never-back-down attitude, Masvidal has carved out a legacy as one of UFC’s most electrifying figures, with a career that has stretched for over two decades and iconic moments inside the octagon that has etched his name into becoming one of the most prominent figures in the sport. After all, Masvidal still holds the record for the fastest knockout in UFC history, finishing Ben Askren in 5 seconds.

Now after a brief retirement and a detour into boxing, the former champ is teasing the fans with a potential comeback in 2025, and he’s zeroed in on settling an old score that’s been simmering since a long time. Prior to his hiatus from the UFC, he lost four straight fights and knew that the best thing to do, was to take a little break from the sport. He fought Nate Diaz in a boxing match last summer, and while both the fighters showed off their impressive endurance, Masvidal took a loss in the end.

Masvidal Wants To Settle Scores With Leon Edwards

Edwards has been in a bit of a slump himself, losing his last two fights against Belal Muhammad and Sean Brady. The Brit lost his welterweight belt to Muhammad, and then went on to get finished, inside the Octagon, for the first time in his career by Sean Brady. Following the two consecutive losses, we all wondered what’s next for Edwards and when will we see him inside the octagon again.

Well Masvidal recently called out Edwards and here is what he had to say

“If the UFC wants to make this fight happen, give me the Leon fight, and then after that, I’ll fight whoever has that damn belt… I don’t have to worry about the takedowns, and I know on the feet he’s fragile compared to me.”

The History Between Edwards and Masvidal

The beef between Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards stems from a 2019 backstage altercation at UFC London. Edwards interrupted Masvidal’s interview, and bad-mouthed him, leading to a heated exchange. Masvidal then struck Edwards with a quick flurry of punches but Edwards was unable to fire back as the two were quickly separated.

The incident, caught on camera, sparked a rivalry fueled by ongoing trash talk. Despite near fight bookings, they haven’t gotten an opportunity to settle it inside the octagon, with Masvidal making it known that he wants a 2025 showdown to resolve their unfinished business.
