Jorge Masvidal, the Miami native who made his name with spectacular knockouts and street fighter attitude, has never been one to shy away from giving his take on the sport. ‘Gamebred’ has seen it all during his long career in the UFC. When it comes to analyzing fights, Masvidal brings a unique perspective that comes from years of experience inside the octagon. His recent comments about a potential matchup between Islam Makhachev and Jack Della Maddalena have caught the attention of fight fans everywhere.

Jorge Masvidal On Islam Makhachev’s Weight Cut

According to Masvidal, Islam Makhachev is simply too big for the UFC lightweight division. At 155 pounds, Makhachev has to cut significant weight to make the limit, which Masvidal believes affects his performance. This isn’t just random speculation from the former BMF champion. He has been around long enough to spot when a fighter is draining themselves to make weight.

“ I have seen Islam bro. He is a big guy. He is sucking out a lot of weight to get to 155. I think he might start doing better at 170,” said Masvidal via Red Corner MMA.

The weight cutting process in MMA can be brutal and often determines who wins and loses. When fighters cut too much weight, they lose strength, speed, endurance and their chin. Masvidal thinks Islam falls into this category, even though he’s been successful at lightweight. Moving up to welterweight would allow Makhachev to fight at a more natural weight, potentially making him even more dangerous. Of course, this would also mean facing bigger and stronger opponents, but Jorge seems to think the trade off would be worth it for the Dagestani fighter.

While Masvidal acknowledges Islam’s size advantage, he is equally impressed with Jack Della Maddalena’s abilities. The Australian fighter has been making waves in the welterweight division with his aggressive style and finishing ability. What really caught Jorge’s attention was Della Maddalena’s recent title victory over Belal Muhammad. In Masvidal’s eyes, Muhammad has the best cardio in the entire division, making Della Maddalena’s win even more impressive.

“Jack is special. We are gonna see just how special he is if he beats Islam.”

Beating someone with Belal Muhammad’s conditioning and wrestling ability isn’t easy, and Masvidal knows it. He has been known to push a pace that breaks other fighters, wearing them down over five rounds with his relentless pressure. For Della Maddalena to not only survive but actually win that fight shows he has something special. Jorge sees this as a sign that Jack could hang with anyone in the division, including someone as skilled as Islam Makhachev.

Despite his praise for both fighters, Masvidal still leans toward Islam winning a potential matchup. However, he was quick to point out that it wouldn’t be an easy night for the former lightweight champion. Jorge expects a tough, competitive fight that could go either way depending on how things play out.
