Their rivalry burned hot eight years ago when they last fought. Most fans thought the bad blood had cooled down by now. They were wrong. These two legends still can’t stand each other, and recent comments show the hate runs deeper than ever.

They first clashed at UFC 182 where Jones won a decision that left Cormier heartbroken. Their rematch at UFC 214 ended with an even more devastating knockout by Jones. But that victory got overturned to a no-contest after Jones failed his drug test. Cormier retired without ever beating his biggest rival, carrying that burden into his broadcasting career. Jones recently announced his retirement from active competition, only to change his mind days later. The constant back and forth between these two proves that time doesn’t heal all wounds in fighting.

Daniel Cormier’s Comments Start The War

During the UFC 318 weigh in show, someone asked Cormier a loaded question about fighting his enemy. The setup was perfect for drama, and Cormier walked right into it. When pressed about where he would want to fight his biggest rival, his answer raised eyebrows across the MMA world. He said he wanted the ability to kill his enemy at his own house where nobody could stop him. The hosts pushed for clarification, and Jones got indirectly mentioned in the conversation.

“I kind of want the ability to kill him, so I’d like to do it at my house. They couldn’t really do anything.”

Cormier tried to backtrack immediately, claiming he doesn’t actually dislike Jones and thinks he’s fine. But the damage was already done. Those words hung in the air like smoke. Social media captured every second of the exchange, and fight fans knew exactly what would happen next. Jon Jones saw those comments and decided to remind everyone why he’s considered one of the most ruthless fighters ever. His response came swift and brutal across multiple social media platforms. He started with an Instagram comment that referenced Cormier getting beaten in front of his family again. The shot was personal and designed to hit where it hurts most.

“Could you imagine getting your a** kicked for the third time in front of the wife and kids?”

In a pair of recent tweets, Jones followed up on his original Instagram comment with more malice.

“DC said he wants to kill me at his house. I already buried him twice in the Octagon. Third time I’m bringing a shovel.”

His follow-up tweet was even more savage, talking about the mansion he owns in Cormier’s head. Jones claimed those beatings left more than physical bruises and caused lasting emotional damage.

“A blind man can see the mansion I own in Daniel’s head. I just didn’t realize how deep his hate still runs. Those a** whoopings must’ve left more than bruises, I feel like I’m the most painful thing that ever happened to that man’s life. Emotional damage.”

Jones dropped his social media bombs right as UFC 318 kicked off in New Orleans. Cormier was working the event as a broadcaster and interviewer, trying to stay professional while his biggest rival tormented him online!
