The UFC heavyweight division’s drama is an on going saga that doesn’t seem like it’s coming to an end anytime soon. On one hand we have the champ, Jon Jones, who’s arguably the greatest fighter in the history of the UFC as he’s fought for more than two decades and continues to still rack up wins after wins. On the other hand, we have Tom Aspinall, who is the current interim champion, and is considered to be the greatest threat to Jon Jones’ legacy in the UFC. Ever since Jones took out Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, in November of 2024, Aspinall has been practically begging for a fight against the legend to become the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion. However, Jones has different plans, at least that we know of.
Jon Jones wants to be paid, and if he is going to take on a fighter that is much younger and in his prime, he wants a huge check. This is most likely the biggest reason why UFC President, Dana White, has not announced on official date for the two fighters to face off each other. So, Jon Jones currently has packed his bags and is taking a vacation in Thailand and through his social media accounts, we can clearly see that he’s having the time of his life . Meanwhile, the interim champ, is currently focusing on growing his YouTube channel’s popularity, and has stated that he’s simply tired of talking about a fight against Jones.

Various UFC fighters and the MMA community have weighed in their opinions on why the fight hasn’t happened so far. But, recently, an MMA had a very different view as to why Jones hasn’t fought Aspinall yet, and here is what he said.
Former UFC Fighter and Jones’ longtime rival, Daniel Cormier believes that the making of Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall is at a halt because the current heavyweight champ could be scared of getting knocked out. He said, “You know what the big worry might be for him? With Aspinall, he could potentially get knocked out. Like legitimately knocked out and put on his back, and out cold. And I just don’t know that he wants to have that visual of him in the world. Cause I’ve seen myself get beat, and I’m like ‘God that’s such a horrible visual’ every time.”
While Jones is the current heavyweight champion, and arguably the GOAT of the UFC and the heavyweight division, the fact remains that Aspinall is a younger fighter who might actually be much hungrier to prove himself, than Bones is at this point of his career. Jones has a lot of things going on in his mind currently as he has expressed some desire to call it quits from the MMA world, but he also wants that huge check and potentially put down Aspinall, which will only cement his status even further.
While Dana White has time-and-time again reminded everyone that the fight is going to happen this year, the dates are still not confirmed and we speculate that this blockbuster fight is only going to come around at the end of the year, if it is going to happen, to begin with.

mma I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
