John Cena scored the most meaningful victory towards the end of his career, filled with impossible moments, as he defeated Dominic Mysterio to become the new Intercontinental Champion. What’s best about this victory is that it came in his hometown of Boston, Massachusetts.

This victory officially crowned John Cena as a WWE Grand Slam Champion, adding the missing title in Cena’s legendary resume.

The arena was filled with John Cena’s fans who were there to see their hometown hero one last time. John Cena was acknowledging the crowd when Dominic Mysterio not only interrupted him but also insulted him in his hometown.

The heated confrontation unfolded between the two, and Triple H announced that Dominic Mysterio would defend his title against the Never Seen Seventeen, John Cena.

The Last Title: John Cena Becomes the Grand Slam Champion in Boston

The match between John Cena and Dominic Mysterio was a brawl between two eras, a clash of generations and styles. Dominic Mysterio blindsided John Cena even before the bell rang.

He utilized his cunning and chaotic ways, like exposing the turn buckle and using the championship belt as a weapon, and even knocked the referee out. He tapped out to STF from John Cena, but the referee wasn’t there.

John Cena, powered by Boston’s faith, was immune to his tactic, survived the 619 and Frog Splash from Dominic Mysterio. He reversed Dirty Dom’s Frog Splash into a devastating Attitude Adjustment and secured a pinfall victory to become the New Intercontinental Champion and add the only missing piece of gold from his otherwise perfect career.

The crowd erupted in a deafening roar as the Last Real Champion, John Cena, raised his Intercontinental Championship. John Cena achieved the Grand Slam, holding the World Heavyweight Championship, WWE Championship, United States Championship, and now the Intercontinental Championship.

This victory kicks off the final chapter of his retirement tour, proving him to be the biggest difference-maker in WWE.
