Liverpool’s injury troubles deepened during their emphatic 5-1 Champions League win against Eintracht Frankfurt. Summer signing Jeremie Frimpong limped off with another hamstring injury. The Dutch full-back lasted less than 20 minutes before being replaced by Conor Bradley after pulling up in pain.

Frimpong joined the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen for £29.5 million. The setback is a frustrating one for manager Arne Slot, who had earmarked Frimpong as a crucial attacking outlet in his new-look system. Frimpong has already missed a portion of the season with a similar issue.

Now the 23-year-old’s recurrence of the injury comes as a major blow to both him and the club. After the match, talking to Sky Sports, Slot said, “Jeremie only came back from a hamstring injury a few weeks ago. He played for the national team one game, came back to us, and now unfortunately he had to go off.”

Arne Slot Concerned Following Jeremie Frimpong Injury

Slot acknowledged that the defender is expected to be sidelined ‘for a few weeks’. This compounds Liverpool’s defensive problems amid a packed fixture schedule. Slot added, “It’s not really helpful that with Alisson being out, with Giovanni Leoni being out, I expect Jeremie to also definitely be out now for a few weeks.”

The Liverpool boss also hinted at the team’s thin squad depth. Slot revealed that he often needs to call up youth players for training sessions due to multiple injuries across the senior team. The timing could hardly be worse for Liverpool.

Especially since they have just rediscovered their form following a difficult spell. The win in Germany ended a four-game losing streak. But they have a Premier League clash against Brentford looming and a Carabao Cup tie versus Crystal Palace next week. So, Slot faces a challenge in maintaining momentum.

Frimpong’s injury leaves Liverpool light on options at right-back. Especially with Conor Bradley still adjusting to first-team demands. The Dutch defender’s pace and attacking drive from wide areas had been key to Slot’s tactical setup, often acting as a creative link alongside fellow countryman Cody Gakpo.

For now, the Reds are awaiting medical assessments to determine the full extent of Frimpong’s injury. Early indications suggest that he will have to spend another spell on the sidelines. However, the club remains hopeful it won’t be a long-term absence as they navigate through a critical phase of the season.
