Jean Silva Sends A Warning To Diego Lopes Ahead Of Their Noche UFC Bout

Jean Silva has been knocking on the door of elite featherweight competition for over a year now. His finishing ability has caught everyone’s attention, but finding willing opponents has proven more difficult than expected. The Brazilian has steamrolled through five straight UFC opponents since his debut. But now, he is set to face a former title challenger in Diego Lopes at Noche UFC.

Silva claimed the UFC offered him several big names before settling on Diego Lopes, but those fighters turned him down. They saw a dangerous up and comer with nothing to lose and decided the risk wasn’t worth the reward. Even Yair Rodriguez, who was supposedly lined up for a title eliminator with Lopes, mysteriously got injured and bowed out. That left Lopes in an interesting position: take a dangerous fight against Silva or sit on the sidelines waiting for something better to come along.

Jean Silva Believes Diego Lopes Made His Own Matchmaking Decision

According to Silva, this fight only happened because Lopes went rogue on social media. ‘Lord’ claimed that Lopes’ manager, Jason House, was against the matchup from the start. House probably looked at Silva’s resume and saw nothing but red flags.But Lopes decided to take matters into his own hands, going online and basically calling out Silva for a fight. Talking to MMA Junkie, this is what Silva said:

“And I understand that his manager, fighting me is not something that he was gonna go for – perhaps didn’t want it either. But then Diego just went online and made some statements about the fact that he would fight me over the weekend if he could. So basically Diego was doing matchmaking and basically signed on his coffin.”

Silva sees this as the moment his opponent made a crucial mistake. The Brazilian believes Lopes got caught up in the heat of the moment and made a business decision with his emotions instead of his brain. It’s the kind of move that can either make a career or end it, depending on how things play out on fight night. Silva clearly thinks it’s going to be the latter.

The fight takes place September 13 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. Silva has made it clear he believes this will be his coming-out party as a legitimate contender. For Lopes, this becomes a must win situation where another loss could send him tumbling down the rankings. Silva seems confident that his opponent’s manager was right to be worried about this fight. Who will walk with his hand raised that day remains to be seen!
