Popular Latvia basketball player Janis Timma passed away at the age of 32. The former NBA Summer League star died by apparent suicide in Moscow on Monday, local media reports said. A phone with a message from his ex-wife Ukrainian singer and actor Anna Sedokova was reportedly found next to him. However, authorities have not stated the cause of death yet.

Janis Timma’s professional career

Born on July 2, 1992, Timma was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 60th overall pick in the 2nd round of the 2013 NBA Draft.

However, he didn’t feature for the team in the NBA and was eventually traded to the Orlando Magic in exchange for Luke Ridnour in 2015.

In 2021, Timma was a part of the Magic’s Summer League team in Las Vegas, and played 5 games, contributing a total 35 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists.

He played briefly in the NBA G League with the Lakeland Magic during the 2021-2022 season.

While Timma couldn’t make much impact in America, he made a decent career as a pro basketball around the world. His most notable career highlight is when he led VEF Riga to win the Latvian Basketball League in 2014.

While Timma had a decent professional career, his personal life turned out to be a mess. Timma had a troubled relationship with ex-wife Anna Sedokova. Timma, who had a son named Christian from his previous marriage, started dating Anna in 2019.

The couple got married in 2020 but soon started having troubles in the relationship. Earlier this year, the duo had filed for divorce. Timma had often shared his turmoil on social media, accusing the Ukrainian singer of picking money over love.

On Monday, the 32-year-old reportedly took his own life and his body was found in the stairwell of a residential building in Moscow.
