James Vowles Shuts Down Rumors of Sainz Running a 2024 Car

James Vowles clarifies the use of an older chassis in their team.

James Vowles has appeared on the social media platforms of Williams F1 in order to address some critical rumors rampant in the community. Vowles was able to secure the services of Carlos Sainz Jr. for the 2025 F1 season. Carlos Sainz Jr. had spent the previous four seasons racing for Scuderia Ferrari. He was a regular contender for podiums and a strong contender for race wins throughout this tenure in Ferrari. Sainz joined Williams in 2025 with a clear motive. He wanted to return them to their original glory. Williams F1, presently a backmarker team in Formula 1, was a force to be reckoned with in the 90s.

Sainz’s arrival at Williams changed many things at once. He was fast in testing and practice sessions. He and his teammate were the favorites among the other midfield cars. In his first race, however, Sainz could not reach the heights he was wishing for. He crashed out of Australian Grand Prix at the end of the first lap due to a sudden power spike. Sainz’s performance was similar during the Chinese GP and he was unable to perform according to expectations. Carlos Sainz was visibly surprised due to his performance and called it one of the strangest performances. His words prompted the Spanish media to blow it out of proportions. Ultimately, Vowles had to come forth in order to calm this uprising.

James Vowles Releases Statement on Behalf of Williams

James Vowles came forth to explain the reason behind these rumors and to nullify them. Spanish journalist, Carlos Miquel, raised questions about discrepancy in between the two Williams. He claimed that Sainz was relegated to the older Williams FW46 chassis compared to his teammate Alex Albon. The F1 paddock is already investigating a lot of rumors about Red Bull building their car according to Max Verstappen. Miquel’s doubts ended up raging a new fire. However, before Williams could get dowsed by this rumor, Vowles made sure to explain every technicality behind their team’s workings.

In his video, James Vowles has explained that their team is using the FW46 chassis as a base for their 2025 car instead of redesigning it from scratch. This means that essentially, both Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz are using the 2024 car as a base model for their new car. According to Vowles, this is their intended plan for both drivers and there is no disparity among them. James Vowles was surprisingly quick in order to dismiss these concerns.

Williams seem to be on track with one of their drivers. Although, the team needs to address Carlos Sainz’s issues in order to achieve the maximum points during the 2025 season. The team is managing their drivers effectively and so far, there are no power struggles between these two talents. This spells good news for Williams who can make sure that their strategy is optimised to benefit both drivers.
