Jalen Suggs may miss out next home game against Utah Jazz on Sunday.

Orlando Magic’s Jalen Suggs sustained a back injury during the game against the Toronto Raptors on Friday. The 23-year-old left the court in the second quarter and was ruled out for the game with back spasms.

The Magic guard was running off a screen and immediately fell to the court holding his back. He looked in pain and stayed down for several minutes on his side a few feet beyond the 3-point arc. Suggs left the court in a wheelchair with 3:11 remaining in halftime.

The fourth-year veteran covered his face with a towel when he left the court. He scored six points in 13 minutes in the Magic’s 106-97 win over the Raptors. Orlando had a 56-41 lead when Suggs departed. Suggs was also grabbing at his back at points of Wednesday’s game in Detroit.

“He was in a lot of pain,” Orlando coach Jamahl Mosley said, adding that the veteran will be evaluated again Saturday. It means, there is suspense on his arrival against the Utah Jazz on Sunday.

“We are just keeping his spirits high,” Cory Joseph continued. “Hopefully, it’s not as bad as it looked out there. It’s kind of been unfortunately a theme this season – we have guys going down. We just know next man mentality. We definitely wanted to pull this one out for him.”

Orlando has hit through regular injuries this season. All-Star Paolo Banchero is dealing with a torn oblique and played five games this season. Forward Franz Wagner remains sidelined since Dec. 6 due to injury. Center Moritz Wagner recently had a ACL injury on Dec. 21.

The 6-foot-5 guard was drafted by the Orlando Magic in 2021, averaging a career-high 16.8 points and 4.2 rebounds while starting in all 34 games.
