According to reports, Wagner will be re-evaluated in four weeks.
Orlando Magic faces a big blow ahead of the crucial NBA Cup quarterfinal as the star forward Franz Wagner has been diagnosed with a torn right oblique and will be out indefinitely, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Wagner suffered the injury against the 76ers on Friday night, and his return will depend on how he responds to treatment. According to reports, Wagner will be re-evaluated in four weeks.
Surprisingly, his co-star Paolo Banchero had the same injury and has been out since Oct. 30. It’s been five weeks, and Banchero’s recovery is in process. We can conclude that Wagner is likely to join the squad in January.
It could be a big setback for the Magic, considering their brilliant run of form in the East. Magic takes third spot in the conference with a 16-9 record and will take on Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Cup quarterfinals next week. With two key players out, they have to replan their strategy.
Wagner is a vital player for Jamahl Mosley, the Orlando head coach. The 23-year-old forward is averaging 24.4 points, 5.7 assists, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game with a 46.5% shooting percentage. The German finished with 30 points in his last game against the Sixers and also had five rebounds and five assists while shooting ten from 23.
Wagner became just the third player in franchise history to record 30 or more points in three consecutive games multiple times in his career. He joined Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal (14 times) and Tracy McGrady (13 times).
Following an impressive 5-game road trip, Orlando Magic will return to the KIA Center on Sunday to face the Phoenix Suns before playing NBA Cup quarterfinals against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night. Unfortunately, the team’s current offense leader, Franz Wagner, will be out.
