The golden words coming out of Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley on the sidelines while having a brief moment with his quarterback Jalen Hurts were “Jalen Hurts gonna Smile now?”

This heartfelt moment the two stars on the Eagles team shared came just minutes before the clock struck zero and Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans came to an end. Philadelphia’s trouncing of the two-time defending champions, the Kansas City Chiefs sent a ripple of shockwaves across the NFL. Nobody in their right frame of mind could have expected the domination Philly’s players displayed on the field that night.

In fact, the word domination doesn’t do enough justice to the Eagles’ execution. While the score at the end of the game read 40-22, Philadelphia had a commanding 40-6 lead with just a little over 3 minutes left in the game before which they decided to ease off a little.

Their Super Bowl LIX victory was a culmination of great team play throughout the year, but one thing that really helped was the addition of running back Saquon Barkley to the mix. The Eagles’ offense flourished under his leadership and dominant season.

Jalen Hurts And Saquon Barkley’s Sideline Moment

With just the last-minute formalities left for the Super Bowl to draw to a conclusion, Barkley found Hurts on the sidelines and the two shared a very touching moment together. While hugging, the two shared a brief conversation in which Barkley could be heard asking “Jalen Hurts gonna Smile now?”

Hurts went on to say “When that hits zero zero” (referring to the game clock). After that Hurts expressed his thoughts on how Barkley made a huge impact on this team this year enabling them to get back to the Super Bowl and win the whole thing. While Barkley responded that it took everybody, Hurts assured him that he needed to understand his contribution and how he was the last piece they needed to bring home the Championship.

How Saquon Barkley Improved The Eagles

Barkley, who was a New York Giant for his first six seasons, came over to the Eagles in the 2024 offseason with the intention of playing for a Championship caliber team and an organization that would value him for his worth above anything else.

The Eagles already boasted of a strong roster, especially on offense, led by Hurts under center, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith as the top two receivers, and a strong offensive line behind whom Barkley could make an impactful contribution.

While the defensive line was solid as well, Philadelphia added depth in the linebacker room acquiring Zack Baun and drafted two young rookies at the cornerback positions to boost their struggling team. As a result of this, the only place where they could improve significantly was the running back position and by acquiring Barkley, the Eagles improved in all positions before starting their campaign.

Barkley’s career year helped Philadelphia finish the year 14-3. He rushed for an astonishing 2,005 yards in 16 games and continued his form in the postseason as the Eagles marched onwards. The precious moment the two players were involved in on the sidelines showed how much they respect each other and how their Super Bowl-winning season was truly a team effort.
