“It Would Be Nice To Be at the FA Cup Final”: Pep Guardiola Who Could Lose His 7-Year Streak of Winning Silverware With Manchester City

Pep Guardiola Could Face End of 7-Year Trophy Streak Amid FA Cup Final Hopes

Manchester City is having a Topsy-turvy season up until this point. After the below-par performance in the Premier League and the Champions League exit, Pep Guardiola and his men are in a rough spot given their usual standards.

The Cityzens will take on AFC Bournemouth in the FA Cup quarterfinals on Sunday. With the competition remaining their only chance to silverware this season, Manchester City’s seven-year streak of winning silverware is at stake.

After losing only 11 games in the last three Premier League seasons, Guardiola has lost nine games this year already. With the Champions League qualification through the top four in doubt, the Spanish manager will look to find a ticket through the FA Cup trophy.

Reflecting on the unsteady Manchester City season and what the FA Cup could mean, Guardiola in the pre-match conference said:

“It would be nice to be at the FA Cup final and win it and qualify for the Champions League but the season has been poor and that’s not going to change,”

“This is the reality. It’s not going to change for the fact we win one title. We will be happy. Of course, we want to do it. We have one more.” he added.

“But how we behave all of us this season, that’s not going to change. The season has not been good.”

While winning the FA Cup trophy would bring in some positivity, Guardiola could also save his silverware streak with it. Winning nine major trophies since the start of 2021, Manchester City has had quite a downfall this season.

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola beat Manchester City 2-1 in November the last time these two sides met. It was their first victory over Manchester City in the Premier League. The Cherries will certainly have an advantage of mindset coming into the clash.

Manchester City has never failed to score against AFC Bournemouth since 2015. With a dominant head-to-head record against Bournemouth, Guardiola will certainly be all about usual business in the FA Cup clash.
