Islam Makhachev at UFC 322, in Madison Square Garden, made history by defeating welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena in a five-round masterclass. The Dagestani star, fresh of his lightweight reign, targeted double-champ status for a long time and he’s finally achieved what he set out to do.
From the opening seconds, Makhachev took Della Maddalena down and smothered him with relentless ground control. His elite wrestling neutralized JDM’s striking power, as he advanced to mount and threatened submissions. Della Maddalena, who’s known for his knockout artistry, couldn’t escape the suffocating pressure.
Judges scored it 50-45 for Makhachev, crowning his the 11th two-division UFC champion. This win cements his legacy, proving that he is one of the best UFC fighters of all time.
After a dominant win against Della Maddalena at UFC 322, Islam Makhachev and his team recently mocked Ilia Topuria, by destroying a rose. A recent video displayed one of Makhachev’s team member holding a rose and saying “Topuria here is your rose. See what Islam will do to him now. Understand brother?”
Makhachev then goes on to crush a rose in the video, with his team saying they destroyed Topuria’s rose, calling him out for a potential fight at the UFC White House event.
Topuria carries a rose because it’s part of his “El Matador” persona, symbolizing respect for his opponents after a fight. This is similar to a bullfighter who shows respect to the bull. He often leaves a rose on the floor after his victories, a practice that he’s displayed multiple times.
Whether the fight will happen, remains to be seen. Ilia Topuria has time and time again called out Makhachev for a potential super fight. While Makhachev was initially hesitant, as of recent, and his latest post fight conference at UFC 322 denotes that he is also willing to face the Georgian.
Prior to UFC 322, Makhachev has also stated that he would be okay with taking on Topuria, if he felt great post UFC 322 event. We may have to wait for sometime before Makhachev announces his plans moving forward, but for now, Topuria vs Makhachev super fight will have to wait.

mma I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
