Is Lautaro Martinez Playing Tonight? Lautaro Martinez’s Availability for Uruguay vs Argentina World Cup Qualifier Tonight

Argentina’s World Cup Qualifier Against Uruguay Is a Key Match but Will Lautaro Martinez Play?

Argentina have two of their toughest World Cup qualifiers fixtures stuffed in a week this month. They start the tough journey against Uruguay on the road in Montevideo on Friday, March 21. La Albiceleste are leading the CONMEBOL standings with 25 points, five points ahead of Uruguay in third place.

They will be looking for another comfortable win but it wouldn’t have been ready. Especially considering they will be without several key players, including Lautaro Martinez and captain Lionel Messi. Added to that, they lost the last time these two sides face each other by a 2-0 margin last November.

Uruguay are managed by former Argentina boss Marcelo Bielsa whose boys have been impressive in the qualifiers. They’ve won four of their first six matches. However, they’ve lost their momentum recently and have only managed just one win in their last six qualifiers.

Elsewhere, even though Argentina are sitting at the top of the rankings, their away match form has been a matter of concern. They’ve failed to win any of the last three qualifiers away games. Whereas, Uruguay are coming into this fixture on the back of a 1-1 draw against Brazil.

In the absence of Lionel Messi, the Argentina coach would be looking towards the other strikers for the win. Lautaro’s absence will certainly make it difficult.

Will Lautaro Martinez Play Today?

Lautaro Martinez has joined Lionel Messi as both will miss Argentina’s qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil this March. The Argentine Football Association (AFA) confirmed his absence, saying that the Inter Milan striker sustained a hamstring injury following his goal in Inter’s 2-0 win over Atalanta last weekend.

There are a number of players who are missing the match, including Messi, Paulo Dybala, Giovani Lo Celso, and Gonzalo Montiel. With Martinez unavailable, the coach will rely majorly on Julian Alvarez to lead the attack against both of Argentina’s matches this month.
